From the linked article "If cars are approved, a person can operate the vehicle "without being physically present," according to one provision. But the person operating the vehicle -- present or not -- will be held responsible for what the car does. "

Driverless cars are only a matter of when not if as far as I can see. Ultimately they will be able to move people around faster and safer than under human control and that alone will drive thier development and adoption, but also just think how much more useful and flexible your car would be if it could drive itself ? Need it to go to work ? Fine but once its left you there it can go back home on its own and be available for your other half to use whilst you are at work and then come and back on its own to pick you when work ends. Want a take out meal but cant agree who's turn it is to go and collect it ? Just send the car. Personaly I can not wait for this potnetial future to be a reality. Also if it fails to start in the morning and you ring up the garage they can just tell you to try turning it off and back on again and see if that fixes it.

Lovely idea, no more queueing for driver's licences and coming face to face with that very obnoxious woman in the office - I am convinced that she is mentally ill - can't come too soon for me.
