1 day and 1 night.

Or 2 days if you stop over for a night in Istanbul.

it'd realy depend on how much one is prepaired to drive in a day, weater conditions and not to forget going through istanbul. It took me just over 2 hours to get to istanbul from kapikule and longer to get out of it,week before last.Considering what the weater is like,I drove to aksaray in 12 hours, including going through a thick fog for about 100km.

Saying all above, the roads in turkey are now funtastic.

ps.above times are based on long wheel base van, fully loaded.

dublin-holyhead=€276.......one way

dover -calais =£92.........one way

total petrol cost =€600 _+

tasucu-cyprus =286tl.....3 people,parrot,.........

I drove renault trafic,1.9 diesel engine...........fully loaded...........wife bought ireland.

because of the water conditions I was rather worried in case something happens in the middle of nowhere,so I just kept driving.......

off the ferry to calais at 07.20 french time, saturday morning,by 7.30 pm (rough guess) I'd have entered turkey if it wasn't for the realy thick fog. After 3 hours of driving around couple of mile rarious, tiredness gave in and parked up in near by petrol station fore some rest,in Bulgaria.By 6.30 am following morning I was in turkey.

Thanks Yorg.

Did they charge extra for the parrot? lol.

Did you go via Serbia or the longer way around? We have friends there we would like to stop and see but a bit worried as have been told its not the easiest place.

So how long do you think it took from arriving in France? You said you were there Saturday, what day did you arrive in Turkey?

Blade I've done the journey from UK to Tasucu a few times and I pretty much agree with what is posted above. Check yer weather forecasts, very important, any time of the year. Through Serbia each time no problem but I've never stopped there overnight.

Best time for the journey 71 hrs Calais to Tasuca, me and a pal shared the driving, two over night stops in hotels, Luxemburg and Hungary and cabbed it overnight the asian side of Istanbul. Average journey time 4 days with overnight stops with just me driving.

I've found ferry tickets from the UK much cheaper if you book a return on the internet. Try to avoid travelling through Istanbul at peak times. Good luck it's a great experience.

Yorg,

Yes the route you took is the way i would be looking to go. I checked the RAC website and they say just over 30 hrs drive time, for the fast route.

Has anyone driven via Serbia & Croatia with pets?

I had a look at the Serb gov website but could see no mention of what would be needed traveling with pets. I know when you fly a pet to Serbia you don't need much paperwork, but not sure about driving through.?

blade...........driving 'through' is even easier..........no questions asked, whatsoever.Saying that, they never did ask anything about them and I didn't tell them anything.
