Anyone out there who could advise us please on the feasibility of installing 4 xs 2.5tonne plastic torpedo style water tanks at the bottom of our drive (concrete and block paved) rather than the 2 x 2 tonne metal tanks under our kitchen window. I do not have a municipal water supply. My water comes from my neighbours well. The tanks would have to be linked to give us a 10 tonne capacity Would it really be possible. Hate to get the 'professionals' out because I feel that they would tell me that it is OK just because they want the job. Not an inexpensive job so want to be absolutely sure. Any advice would be gratefully received.

sue, just answered this and pressed send and the reply disappeared. Again. Yes it is possible but if i were you i would not connect the tanks together ie ' in line ' rather i would connect them by a manifold outside the tanks so that you can choose how many tanks are in use at any time. You may need only 1 or 2 connected during the winter months. Just put a stop valve on the outlet from each tank and then connect to the next and so on until you feed the pump. Geoff

| Sue would not two 5 tons be cheaper, I added a 5ton torpedo style to my existing 2 ton metal (mine are at the back of house)and it works very well( I am however on mains) I used the people in lapta behind Lapida Hotel road they do tanks and wrought Iron (sorry do not know name) It was about 800 tl including hooking up to existing 2 ton. | davedee, we went to Mr Pipe to look at the Italian torpedo tanks and the only 5 tonne tanks were upright rather than torpedo. I said it was ugly and too tall and asked him about torpedo (laid down) He said they were not available so how did you get one? We are totally niaive about this job unfortunately, and I hate to admit it but do not want to be taken advantage of. The 2.5 tonne tanks are 640 tl each - x 4 would be 2560 tl without any fitting or anything. so it looks like you did very well to buy a plastic tank and get the job done for 800. The upright one is 1050 (5 tonnes) If I cannot sort the job out in my mind then I will end up doing nothing because of confidence issues. |

Sue Is Mr Pipe the same as I went to , if not I will find the name for you! Danny Bishop laid the base and I believe he uses the tank suppliers yard. Email if I can be of any more assistance deesbistro@aol.com . I should be out in next couple of weeks. Sue correct me if I am wrong but I believe you use Cousins Restaurant on occasions! It was Ergin who organised it with them originally for me. Dave.

Yes we do go to Cousins now and again. Thankyou for replying. Mr Pipe is in Catalkoy. They were so disinterested, they gave me the prices for the 4 x 2.5 tonne tanks and then I picked up the new Buzz Book, which showed that they had a campaign on the tanks with much cheaper prices than they quoted me. Surely they should have quoted the campaign prices. Does not inspire confidence does it? I do not need a base. We have 10 inches of concrete on the driveway and then block paving on top. The water tanker when he came before we put a carport up used to drive on it and he carried at least 30 tonnes so I know it is strong enough for my 10 tonnes. Confused, who is Ergin - is he the man at Cousins? I would rather wait and be sure (confident) than rush with the job

Paralik supply water tanks and fit them, we got ours from Lefkosa but they now have a branch in Karakum on RHS heading East. It was a few years ago but we shopped around and they gave us the best price. I would think that if you are planning to buy a few you should be in a good position to negotiate. Mrs G

So although Mr Pipe says they don't exist is it possible to buy 5 tonne laid down torpedo tanks? 2 of these would be just the solution for us. Anyone got one? Cannot have the underground tank (which would be a perfect solution) as do not have any suitable place for placement of it.

Yes Brian, I have also seen the 5 tonne tanks but they are so tall and ugly. If we can find laid down ones then we can screen them. Of course I will not forget Ati. He is great.

mess 15. I do understand that things often get lost in translation but I definitely want 2 x 5 tonne tanks laid down not sat up as I cannot hide them. I would be so pleased if you could have a word with them about this matter. I would be happy to just hand the job over to them provided I can afford it! You are very kind to offer your help Your email address however, is not available to me Mine is there though if you email me then I would have yours.

Two of our neighbours got torpedo tanks from Paralik, I think they are 5 tonne - they are certainly a lot bigger than ours which is 2 tonne. Mrs G

Paralak certainly have the best plastic tanks, there is a cheaper version which is white inside but the black inner is best for storing water on the surface as the water will keep better. It is worth plumbing individually as previously mentioned and fill one and draw from the other to keep flow of water as fresh as possible. I certainly would go for a tank in the ground, as it keeps the water much better, and is less unsightly, there is no need to line the hole the tank is placed in but it must be full of water before back filling around the tank or it will get crushed. Good luck. Regards ex-Mr.Fixit.

However, you will need to site them carefully if the hole is unlined as on occasion they might be empty, when you want to clean them out or there are water shortages etc. and you don't want them crushed post-fitting if the hole is near an area susceptible to pressure on/from the ground around it.
