Well I need a good tranquil break and North Cyprus looks ideal. nearly all the holiday companies for the country seem to fly via Larnika and provide a Transfer across the border. Is this better? or does it take a few hours? only coming for 7 days so need to enjoy as much time as possible. i belive flights used to come via Turkey. So what has changed?

thanks

Tony

look up http://www.mercury-deirect.co.uk for some good deals ...

Larnaca transfers are usually provided by the travel agencies and only take 1hr 20mins.

mercury-direct i assume seems to be a "e" in there for some reason.

"ONLY TAKE 1HR 20MINS" thats as long as it takes to get from Birmingham to Manchester.....is it longer to wait in Turkey on the runway.

i suppose its the difference between 5-6 hours going via Turkey with 40 mins transfer time or

4 hours + 1hr 20mins going via Larnika

any real other negatives like border control. ?

Oops, a typo.

On some of the flights through Turkey one can wait between 50 mins on an aircraft or a couple of hours when one is forced to change aircraft. The departure times are also a little annoying, like 0400 hrs!

If you are going only for a week then choose what is more relaxing.

A One Rent A Car does good car rental deals should you require a vehicle to run around in.

Border Control takes a few minutes and your transfer driver will ask you to fill in a small piece of paper which becomes your Visa and take that with your Passport to Immigration Control.

The minimum stop at Turkey is about 45 minutes. Usually new passengers come on so sometimes the wait is a little longer. I think from Manchester the total travel time to Ercan is about 6 hours. The journey to Kyrenia about 45 minutes.

The flying time to Larnaca from Manchester averages 4hours 30 mins with a minimum journey time to the North as stated previously 1hour 20 mins There is not much in it.

However it is worth checking flight prices and timings if you are travelling independently. The taxi charge from Larnaca will be about £50. I am not sure about Ercan. We have found in the past that the flight home from Larnaca has been horrendously early i.e 6.45 am. This is, however, The Manchester flight and times could differ depending on destination. There is also now a couple of airlines to choose from. We only used CTA (now defunct)

If you are arranging travel privately like I often do, then Monarch and Thompson provide good flight timings from Manchester. And A One Rent A Car may well provide an airport transfer for £25- each way

BA flight times are more social arriving about 4.30pm and leaving at about 5.45pm and as already mentioned A1 cars only charge £50 return, they will drop you off at their office in Kyrenia if you require car hire. Because of the Olympics, BA have doubled their price, I have just booked up 2 flights this year, one with Cyprus Airways into Larnaca and possibly the cheapest, Easy Jet also into Larnaca but flight times not quite so good, much better than waiting around on the tarmac in Turkey

Hi Tony

Just another point, if you are travelling from the South of the UK which I do, it's easier to travel from Gatwick or Heathrow on the carriers I've mentioned, if you are are from further North it may be easier to fly via Turkey

regards

Dave

Flights everyday with Pegasus (www.flypgs.com ) from Stansted to Ercan. Hardly ever any delays in my experience.
