Our Freelander Diesel Land Rover's insurance is due for renewal this month. It is ten years old and we have been advised by the insurers that because of the age we can no longer have fully comp, only 3rd party? Is this the norm? Laughable really, as according to the TRNC for road tax purposes due to registration date here, it is only five years old. No don't ask about that cost! Thanks in advance for any advice.

Natalie - yes any car over the age of 10 cannot be insured fully comp. It goes by the age of the car (whats written on the inside of the log book) not the date of registration i.e. when is was registered here which is written on the front of the log book. However, if your car is in very good condition Try Elzem Insurance - next door to Hur Deniz in Girne = email - elzeminsurance@yahoo.com for insurance. They will take photos of the car and if they Head Office (Kıbrıs Insurance) ok's it then they can insurance you fully comp.

I use Elzem for all of my insurance and although my car is not 10 years old yet, Ferdiye has almost been most helpful with all of my insurance policies. If anyone can help you, she will. elzeminsurance@yahoo.com

Not meaning to hijack this thread, but my question is on topic. Do the car insurance companies in TRNC have no claims discounts as they do in the UK? Reason for asking is we are moving over in October and wanted to know do we need to bring evidence of years no claims with us? Thanks

Be careful, insurance here is often described as comprehensive and is not fully comprehensive as UK insurance. For example, few comprehensive, if any, cover personal injury to yourself and passengers in the event of an "at fault" accident. Insurers will sell you personal injury cover which massively increases what are already extremely high rates for totally inadequate cover.

On the other hand, you do not loose a no claims bonus in North Cyprus, 'cos there 'aint one. Also. if you have an accident, your premium does not generally increase the following year either. Gerry

I have fully comp insurance here. it covers- car being stolen by aliens car being hit by meteor. car being damaged whilst competing in Monaco grand prix. It does not cover- having an accident with another car of any type. damaging to the car in any way whatsoever. That sums up TRNC car insurance as far as I have been able to work out. You have to laugh though!
