| Stephen Sackur left this Turkish Minister for EU affairs 'with egg on his face'! Why? Because all the euphemisms in the world uttered by the honourable minister cannot obscure the fact that Turkey has not met her stated obligation to implement the 'chapters' insisted by Bruxelles, therefore Turkey cannot claim to be a democracy by UN and Western standards. Add to this the apalling travesty of human rights perpetrated by Turkey in rounding up any dissident journalists and leaaving them to rot in gaol and is it any wonder that France and Germany are so opposed to Turkey's inclusion in their 'hallowed club'. |
