I would just like to ask any ladies that happen to read this post or know of anyone that had the medical check up for cancer at the Hospital, then were told something is wrong and needs further checks.

Were there any ladies that had the further check at another clinic and were told what you have is normal you dont need any other checks. Its just a case of Cyprus Life trying to get more money in their pocket.

It happened to me and 1 other lady I know, so thats 2.....anymore?

Surely it's best for the hospital to err on the side of caution if there is any possibility of doubt.

I have always had excellent care at Medikent/Cyprus Life and have every confidence in them.

message 1,

Can you please e-mail me the details on trnchealthcare@gmail.com I will take it up with the people in charge tomorrow as I have a meeting there about the Womens Health Week.

We had ladies last year that went for second opinions at other hospitals and the diagnosis was the same!

I wonder just how many expats have been given this incorrect information, think about that, percentage rates for people that this hospital find something wrong with seem to be very high and I know of some who have been so concerned that they flew back to the UK only to be told there is nothing wrong with them.

I have also heard that some people have been diagnosed with heart conditions needing triple bypass operations urgently only to be told, once again, there is nothing wrong with them.

The amount of people that get told they are ill and needing urgent surgery is quite staggering considering the population of expats on the island.

Is it something in the water or the Efes or something less genuine!

tonycar,

Can you give me the names of the people whom you are referring to as in my experience anyone who has been diagnosed at this hospital and this includes people who were on holiday, the diagnosis has been spot on. However if there is a problem it needs seeing to.

e-mail me on trnchealthcare@gmail.com

Nurseawful, no I can not, if these people want to contact you they will do it themselves, I would not give out private details.

What I would ask if why would folk on holiday go for a heart check up etc. surely they would wait until they returned home or before they went.

All seems rather odd to me.

Having been for the men's cancer check and then the cardiac check - at two different hospitals I might add - I am very happy with the standards of care and attention in both hospitals. Yes, I had things found wrong with me in both checks and yes following the cardiac check I have had to change all my medications and get my fat bloated body onto a proper low cholesterol diet. No, I am not going for a biopsy on an enlarged prostate, because I have no cancer issues with it. It comes down to the person who has the checks at the time if they want to progress any further and it always will do. I have not been pushed or threatened with dire consequences at either establishment, I feel I have had a full, value for money, experience and that now it is up to me.

Before I left UK I had to have a hernia operation - before I went to theatre the surgeon checked my xray and marked up where the hernia was - Con't

Con't - He had marked up the wrong side of my body and I had to point out to him that he had done that and that he was holding the xray the wrong way around! The marks are made with felt tip pen, so he just scribbled a line through the first one, wrote "WRONG" over it and marked up the other side instead.

I only mention this because you may wish to consider that the original mark was a wrong diagnoses!!!! Please do not tar all establishments out here with the same brush - I am not stupid and I do understand that the places are there not only for health care but also for profit but you are being seen - almost immediately - by fully trained and qualified professionals!

If you are concerned about your treatment in the TRNC then have a read of this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippocratic_Oath - then have another think about the whole thing.

I have no problems with any medical care in the TRNC - just wish I could afford more!

Message 6,

Can you please ask the people your are posting on behalf off to e-mail me on trnchealthcare@gmail.com and I will pass them on to the general manager or telephone Cyprus Life Hospital with the details.

Re people coming on holiday and having health checks surely that is their choice, private healthcare is expensive in the UK and the NHS has long waiting lists. So no in my opinion their is nothing odd about it.

The General Manager is now aware of the posts and may respond himself later.

As an extra - Also had my eye sight check at Cyprus Life, excellent test and I have been wearing spec's for 60 years so have some experience in eye tests! For 75TL the eye test and consultation with the eye specialist is money very well spent. In comparison with other "eye tests" I have had here for the same cost or more it was 1st class superb treatment.

I was called back but the doctor showed me the worrying areas on the scan so I could see it for myself. I would rather be called back to double check something "sinsiter" and pay than leave it another 12 months only to find it should have been dealt with ASAP.

I have recently had a cancer screening check up at the Near East University Hospital.

At a cost of 400Tl it was,IMO, extemely good value covering upper body Xray. ultra sound scan, e.n.t. exam, an internal physical exam (Male or female) a discussion and explanation of your blood urine & stool sampkles. Finally an upper body physical & general check followed by discussion of your xray & ultra sound results. All done very quickly & efficiently with full written report using what seems to be state of the art equipment.

The Near East University Hospital is the best place in Cyprus as they are "Professor Doctors" from Turkey. Tad more expensive but as you say state of the art equipment and Professors!

I posted this because I just wanted to learn how many ladies had gone down another route after their test results at Cyprus Life and later were told you do not need these further "tests" and what you have is normal for example.

Please everyone do email nurseawful at trnchealthcare@gmail.com (read her message above) Message 9.

I will email you too.

Waddo,

I would like to get my eyes tested, do you have a contact number for the eye specialist at Cyprus Life please.

Thanks.

With regards to the cancer checks, my partner underwent the full checks at Near East whose equipment I have to agree with Trialfinder was state of the art. THey did suggest a couple of areas that he may wish to have further treatment, but it wasn't anything life threatening.

These health days are excellent so great thanks to Chris and Tulips for arranging them.

I normally go to The Portland Hospital in London and have been going to the same Doctor some some years.

Two years ago I had to have minor surgery and decided to go and see a Gynaecologist at Medikent insteda of going back to the UK. The Consultants name was Melis Onbasioglulari. She was excellent. I had the surgery as a day case patient within a few days and was impressed by the care and cleanliness of the hospital.

However. I went back about six months ago for a routine ladies check up and was told that Melis Onbasioglulari was to be in Turkey for 1 year.

I decided that I would see another doctor there as it was only routine. She gave me the fright of my life and told me I was at great risk of cervical cancer and should undergo further testing and biopsy immediately.

I didn't go back and went to see my normal gynaecologist in London and it turned out it was nothing.

The hospital is great but just be careful who you see

I attended one of the ladies health checks 18 months ago at Medikent that was organised by nurseawful.

The test results showed that I needed follow up examinations and boy was I glad they did - I had grade 3 cancer which was confirmed by a 2nd and 3rd opinion from other hospitals (NEU and Turkey). So I have no complaints with Medikent (Cyprus Life). If I had been in UK I would be seriously ill by now with practially no chance of a full recovery which is the total opposite of my life now.

I always encourage people to attend these health checks as it is so important to look after your body, nobody else is going to do it for you.

If your results do show that you need further examinations it maybe worth getting a 2nd opinion elsewhere, I would as my life is far more important than a 120TL (approx) consultation fee.

Personally I would not trust the doctors at a certain hospital in UK after previous experience but none of us should assume that all hospitals and doctors are al

.......oop's missed a bit of the end:

Personally I would not trust the doctors at a certain hospital in UK after previous experience but none of us should assume that all hospitals and doctors are all the same.

My friend in UK has been for follow up tests 4 times due to unusual lumps in her breasts, is it not better to go for a follow up or should she just ignore it?
