Can anyone tell me the best way to get to Kantara castle from Ozankoy? Three years ago we tried to get by going along the coast road but it the good road ran out and became unsuitable for our car. Has this road now been extended far enough or am I better going via Iskele? Neil

You can go all along the coast road to Kaplica turn right to the village go through the village the road is very good right up to the Castle. The new road is great takes you a good way to Karpaz.

Some of my family would love to go up to the castle but dont like hieghts. Are there a lot of sheer drops as you approach the castle. thanks

@ msg 4, Titanic: There are four roads leading to Kantara Castle (also known as Kandara and La Candaire). Via İskele and Ardahan or Boğaz and Yarköy it's a slowly climbing road (not the most scenic). Very nice route: from Mersinlik and Kaplica. Fascinating route with the most beautiful view of the castle: via Mehmetçik and Büyükkonuk.

I went via Kaplica it is a good road with a few twists and turns but the journey is worth it, up the road out of Kaplica village there is a veiwing point on your right the view from there is worth a stop. Once you have been to the Castle come back down to where there is a cafe and there you will see I think three roads which lead back down, I took the Iskele road and stopped there to have a walk round and a drink, most welcoming people there they were so friendly, had the coffe in a local cafe and was charged 5tl for 2 mugs of milky coffee, at first they said they didn't have Nescafe but they sent a boy out to get some from the supermarket.

@ msg, Titanic: (...) the best route with the least sheer drops. (...) Via İskele and Ardahan. But none of the routes I mentioned are dangerous! If you place your passengers in the car on the side near the mountain, they will hardly see any deep slopes or cliffs.
