Hello all, Two lovely dogs have been dumped at the Reservoir near Karsiyaka. One is a Labrador cross, Male, Golden colour. The other is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Bitch, Brown & Black. Both young dogs. They have marks on their necks where collars have been removed. They didn't seem frightened they ran over to us straight away. Both are in very good condition. We phoned KAR but basically they didn't want to know! They said it was too far for them to come. I don't understand it I thought the R in KAR was for RESCUE!!!!!!! I must be wrong. If we lived here we would take them ourselves. Maybe the people who owned them have left the island? Is there another Animal Rescue I could phone, that might be willing to help? If you know of any please would you let me have their phone number. Thank you for your help. Look forward to hearing from you.

Poor dogs, the very sad thing is that frequently there is poison left at the reservoir, I know several people who have had there dogs poisoned there. I wouldnt expect those dogs to last very long there, poor things.

KAR wont go further than Karsiyaka. Unfortunately there were dogs (mother, father and 4 pups) on the Kayalar coast road last year, KAR wouldnt go to collect them as it is not in their area and 2 days later the whole lot of them had been poisoned. That whole area between the end of Karsiyaka to Gecitkoy where the reservoir is, is a poison hot spot.

So, if I were to go and put them into my car and bring them back here to karsiyaka, would KAR then take them in? Anyone know?

msg1 I am sorry that you feel that KAR "basically didn't want to know". That is not the case at all - the reasons behind their inability to help were explained to you on the telephone. KAR have to make difficult decisions and prioritise all cases reported to them based on the animals immediate need, KAR resources and capabilities. The K in KAR is for Kyrenia Animal Rescue !!!!! - not TRNC or North Cyprus Animal Rescue - they simply cannot help all of the animals and/or provide rescue cover throughout North Cyprus - it is sad but it is a fact - they have to have boundaries of responsibility. Would you expect Kyrenia/Girne B'dere to deal with any problem in Karsiyaka ? As it is KAR struggle to cope with the volume of help needed for the dogs and cats within their "Kyrenia" boundary. A report was prepared, following your call, and has been logged on their Lost/Found register in the hope that if someone has lost the dogs they will make contact with the office and info can be provided.
