May be or because the customs are finally checking imports from the south? It does put you off.

I believe that people here have finally woken up to the fact that shopping in the south is not cheap. I only buy there what I cannot get here and I certainly know of GCs who come over to this side to shop because it is cheaper here. I cross frequently for non-shopping reasons and I have to say that there is little sign on the TRNC side of the border of much checking going on by customs at all. The most useful thing about the south is the chance of getting stuff sent there from other EU countries without any hassle.
