We did it in 2004 see your hsbc in England they did all the work for us. You need to guarantee your money, we sent installments of 20,000 pounds which they guaranteed 19000 .

BBB

No probs - up to £10000 can be transferrred online banking. Above that your bank needs to fill in a form usually by computer. RBS charges £27.50 for a 3-5 day transfer. They say what is it for and just say property purchase.

I recommend Creditwest wher you can get up to 11% on a 12 month deposit on Tl.

If worried check their history. They are part of one of the largest companies in Turkey. But your money is guaranteed by TRNC central bank up to a limit for each account. Cant remember what it is but I use 30000tl per account which is well under the limit.

I had my pension paid to my HSBC account every month while I was living there.

The only problem I had was that the first transfer 'disappeared' in transit, but Julie at HSBC managed to locate it. No more trouble after that.

It pays to send each payment with a very slightly differing amount so that multiples of 20,000 do not get confused... e.g.

1 of 20,000

1 of 19,999

1 of 19,998 etc.

Then bring the odd pounds with you to make the total up to the original lump sum.

The central bank often get confused by large sums of the exact same amount from one account to one account, this method removes that confusion as none of them are for the same amount.

I wouldn't use HSBC. They are always losing money in transit. Don't trust them with a penny. Find a decent bank.

If you are foolish enough to use them make sure that when you go in you take plenty of reading material and a picnic. You are likely to be waiting all day.

Have never had any problems transferring to HSBC in TRNC. They have an IBAN number so no need for correspondent intermediaries.

We have Premier account in HSBC here in Girne and opened one in uk which linked up with our Girne one. The required amount generally for uk one is £50,000 but not necessary if linked to the one here. We have transferred 2 sums of money over £10.000 by phone and charge was nil.
