| I know we are all closeted indoors with the fires lit and the curtains closed but did anyone see the fabulous, huge red moon come up earlier?
I wondered if it was red due to the increased solar storms predicted today.
Looks normal now but still stunning just the same. |

| Yes I saw it, driving back towards Girne from Karsiyaka at 6.30. It was absolutely amazing and have never seen it quite like that before. I tried to take a few pictures but they didn't come out because of all the street lights. I hasten to add that I was a passenger in a car and not the driver! |

| The moon always looks red when it is closer to the horizon, ie at sunrise and sunset.
That is because the moonlight has to come through much more of the earth's atmosphere at this angle. The light at the blue end of the spectrum gets scattered by the atmosphere but the red light does not scatter as much as the blue so the light we percieve is red.
Tonight it was absolutely stunning. |
