You need to be more specific about your vehicle.

What size engine?

Fully Comprehensive or Third Party Insurance?

I don't think it makes any difference what car you have and no claims discount doesn't seem to exist here.

Third party only is about 250tl. If you want fully comp., and you can't get that with an old car. You get two policies, or at least I did. 3rd party at standard rate and one for fully comp at double that. i.e. 250tl plus 500tl total 750tl.

Jayne at Turk Bankasi offers a middle cover for 350tl. It pays 2,500tl for any and all accidents involving another vehicle.

Any driver and breakdown cover

Insurance here seems to be purely down to the value of the vehicle. Your age etc has no bearing. As already stated above 3rd party is 250TL, fully comp depends on the value (e.g. £5k, £10k, etc).

Jayne, does your company offer any cover for South of the line? I would be interested in a Comprehensive policy/Recovery service, for use on both sides. I understand I will probably have to take out the standard €25 policy at the crossing.

lilaclady - you could try elzeminsurance@yahoo.com their fully comp covers both north and south and yes you do still need to take out 3rd party insurance at the boarder for the south

Fluffy, a little elaboration would not go amiss. IE what is covered by this North/South policy?

A ball park pricing level would also be nice

yenibob - North/South policy means that if your car is insured fully comprehensive then you are covered fully comp on the north and on the south. Again 3rd party insurances (Third Party Liability Policy) must be taken out separtely in the north and in the south.

3rd party insurance is 250TL - fully comp - depends on the value of vehicle and age.

The problem, shame, (scam ?) of most of these insurance packages is that the legal requirement for a minimum 2 to 3 million TL cover on the 3rd party element is affordable. The so called comprehensive element, which is expensive, is not fully comprehensive for an "at fault" accident and covers only the damage to the vehicle. There is no cover for injury or medical bills for the at fault driver nor his passengers. A further purchase of personal injury insurance is astronomical in price for minimal extra cover. It is said (rumour ?) that local law is soon to change so that all parties involved in the misfortune of an accident have proper fully comprehensive cover. Given the general standard of driving here I cannot imagine what this might cost.

You do need to be aware that comprehensive insurance, on both sides of this island, does cover the entire island. If, however, you have Greek Cypriot fully comp. and you have an accident in the TRNC, the vehicle will have to be returned to the Greek side for repairs. The same situation would occur with a fully comp. TRNC policy and an accident on the Greek side.

Have just taken out Third Party insurance with Turk Bank for 250TL and this includes breakdown cover 24/7. Jayne is very helpful.
