Just read in CT that stocks of Lannate are to be destroyed following the very sad deaths of the couple who may have committed suicide with it.

What good news that is. Hope though, that there are not more deadly poisons out there which kill so many dogs.

We have always been afraid that one day it would be a child.

Terrible that it has taken a tragedy such as this for the government to finally ban the evil stuff. I expect that something else will take its place, cant imagine that there is only one way to poison a dog.

So glad that this is finally to be destroyed, but of course it was illegal in the first place. It gets brought in from Turkey where it is not illegal (I think I am correct and up to date) so there should not be any stocks here, so I hope that the people holding the stuff will be suitably reprimanded in law - fines, imprisonment, or will it just be a destruction of this lot, with more to come.

sorry haven't read anything about it, just going on what you say above.

The stocks should have been destroyed ages ago, bearing in mind the barbaric suffering that the dogs endure,if it had,the couple would not have chosen that way to commit suicide, although another method would have been found I'm sure.

I am really pleased that "officially" it will be destroyed, however if it IS illegal to sell it, then it must be in the hands of individuals - so I don't see how it can be destroyed unless they own up to having it in the 1st place. (I have read that it IS legal here). I would also add that, as there are more ways than one to skin a cat, there more ways than one to poison a dog, banning the lanate may help a little (eventually - when stocks run out) - but won't change anyone's attitude, if they hate dogs - they hate dogs, period, and they will find something else to use.

I am afraid botanica is right. I accessed a website about poisons, and there are hundred of ordinary household and garden chemicals and even plants than can be dangerous to animals - and for that matter humans. I am not listing them to avoid giving anyone ideas, but if you have pets (particularly inquisitive puppies) do be careful what they can get at.

Unfortunately, Lannate is still available and used extensively in the South and many pets are still dying because of this. I suspect like everything else it will be brought across the Border and used in the North.

As planned I shall continue with my Petition and TRY and get some difinitive answer on this issue. (Pigs and Fly come to mind!!)

'Lannate to be destroyed.'
