Has anyone been skiing in Cyprus and if so what did they think of it, also how long do you think it would take to drive to the Troodos mountains from Kyrenia.

Hi Dobbo,

Re skiing in Cyprus, did it 2 yrs ago ,only 4 runs ,1 black and 3 greens if i remember ,not very testing if you can ski but good to learn as my partner was.

Very limited opening due to lack of snow ,pomme(drag)lifts, ski hire and refreshments a bit primative.

Overal opinion Val d'isere it aint but better than nowt, best times would be around middle Feb to mid March, important to check online ski conditions and availlability before going,Ski Cyprus etc.Travel time from Girne i would estimate at around 2 to 2 and half hours as have never done it from north ,we went from Limassol.

Hope this helps.

Update,

Sun Valley 2 runs open from 26th ,web cam shows good snow coverage (40cms) on the diaz which i believe is their black run with the chair lift.

Road conditions are suitable for 4x4 or cars with chains, cant understand with that covering why only 2 runs will be open.By the way i dont think it gets that busy although on a few days on our last visit there was quite a few skiing,be aware that they can shut down the lifts at strange times and i had to climb up to ski on a few occasions.

PS.lessons are availlable too

Ski season actually opens tomorrow on 26th December.

Two lifts will be open.

"Getting There" link on the website has good directions on how to drive from Nicosia.

I don't have a 4x4 and they recommend chains for normal cars. I remember somebody told me that there are people on the road that rent you the chain and help you put it on, but I am not sure if there will be any in the following days. I hope to go on Monday 29th. I will let you know.

Going skiing end of Jan '11, staying friday - monday.

Does anyone know what the prices are like for a pass for 1 day and to rent the skis. Also, where do you rent the skis from !?!? Is there a place at Troodos?

Any info would help. Tried looking on the internet but not finding much info about it.

Hi Joanne, there is a place there to rent your skis and boots. We went 2 years ago so I really sorry I do not remember the cost. It was a good day out. Hope you enjoy your weekend there.
