Hello All,

I am trying to contact a Turkish Policeman, a good friend, and an excellent tutor of tavli.

I would appreciate an email for the Famagusta Police Station, he may well be now retired.

Tavli in Greek, Tavla in Turkish and it originates from Persia or Iran as the new name for this country. So its neither Greek nor Turkish game but it is widely played in the Middle East. I play it regularly on msn zone. It will accept only Internet Explorer i.e. MSN does not allow players to play it with Google Chrome or any other browser. Fair enough.

Hello Ismet,

I was at the BMH at Dhekelia for 3 1/2 years so played both Tavli and Tavla. A favouite version played at Famagusta, was Bastramalik?, or prisoner?. start with the board empty and add according to the dace thrown. if a double thrown, then all 6 doubles are played.

Thanks for your responses

High Peter,

I have just looked up the telephone directory for Kemal Ramadan and nothing came up. Probably he adopted a surname after 1974 as we all did.

The version of tavla you mentioned is" BASTIRMALIK" as you described but I am no good at that.

Hello Elco,

Thanks for your efforts re the telephone number, I must add the I was not aware

that all adopted a new surname. It make my search more difficult, for I have another refugee from

Klavdhia to discover. Now that I am retired, and have so much time on my hands I tend to day dream of my time in Cyprus. It is my intention to revisit late this year or next, so realy I am preparing the way by finding lost friends.

Thanks again. I will keep an eye on the forum, and hope something appear.

This business of new surnames baffles most "foreigners"

In the old days we adopted our father's first name as our surname i.e. If I was Ismet Vehbi, my son would become Koray Ismet and his son would be Ali Koray for instance. After 1974 we all adopted a surname which makes things difficult to trace old friends.
