I purchased a villa in Lapta last june08 and happy to uae the villa as a holiday home,my daughter on the otherhand enjoys living in North Cyprus and has spent most the last 6 months in lapta, the villa is in my wife and my name,Can my daughter apply for temporary residence permit and carry on residing there more than the 3 months limit allows bearing in mind she does not own the property in her name, can she as a family member do so.In future she would like to buy and run a small business, any help also in this matter would be most welcome. My wife parents were born in cyprus (Lanaca)and immigrated to Uk after the war and wonder if that would be of any help in pursuing a gimli card thank hope for a reply Basheer

The simple answer is yes. Best to go to the Police Station and explain the situation. At worst, they will require a statement stating the relationship between you and her, the Police will write a note of what is required. You take that with your passports to a Notar and he will sort out the necessary paperwork. Downside is that you will need to be present.

Another way might be to draw up a simple rental contract for a nominal amount between yourselves and your daughter. This will then enable her to apply for temporary residency.

Remember that you will have to get a rental agreement registered at the tax office - the Police won't accept it unstamped. However, it only costs 0.5% of rental income.

why doesn't she go shopping to the south every couple of months - they issue you with a 90 day visa every time you return to the north. There, residency problems solved. Nick

sorry to sound like a dumb blond but i thought if you lived here you needed to get a residence permit. is it true that all we need to do is to go over to the greek side every few months ? Suzie

If you live here full time then it is advisable to get a permit, If you don't it's not necessary. Dee BTW kevin and I both post under the same ID, I say this because otherwise it can be confusing

I may be wrong, but the problem may come if she arrives via Ercan, trips to the South and keeps getting 90 day visa, but later on leaves via Ercan as they may work on the 'in and out' through the airport. Not sure how people have got on arriving via Ercan but leaving later via Larnaca, and re- arriving at Ercan months later? As for msg 6 - I think you will find that the residence application process looks for a little more than £6k
