Susan, Take it all with a pinch of salt I am quite sure most of the answers you had were tongue in cheek. Most of the 'inmates' are harmless. Chris

I agree with you! One man especially that complains about people not doing any reseach! I thought that asking on the internet/this forum for example is doing exactly that. Poor guy..think he needs to get out a little more.

Indeed there are some people on here who use the anonimity of the internet to display an intolerant stance. However, as in any other forum, it is the expected etiquette to have already attempted a search for previous messages on the given query. I know it may be difficult to trawl through the old messages but I find that by simply stating that I had a go but could not find anything useful is a good way avoiding any assumption that I am "lazy" I suggest my method of dealing with the "children" on the forum: just ignore them.

Lilaclady - we completely agree. We've had some mean 'emails' too (as well as some awesome support from Cyprus 44 too). People who tend to not venture too far away from their PC seems to turn a little grumpy. Plus its safer to attack from a screen than in person. To all grumpies out there...Come and paint some ceramics :P and lets be happy together. 05338440342 near Metehan Border, Nicosia :D

| Our names were plastered all over 44 and yet we had never even heard of the Forum. And had lived here for two years..Now that was real nasty and vindictive ! I have had the #iss taken, bullied, insulted and laughed at many times I like a laugh and give a little banter myself at time, you just have to get some fun out of it Such is 44 and I was thinking at least for me of late its been quite a pleasant month or so ! Don't let it get to you and just carry on. I even have a thread that I do not pull up any more why because I know it will get thrashed.. And you cannot be sure the mods will close it down if asked. Yet others stay on ! Lucky I do not need to post the thread its working out fine by word and mouth ) Most of the time I come on here for a laugh. But it can also be very helpful and informative. | msg 6 & 7. Agree with you, nothing nasty about any of the replies. Pity two others didn't read the thread before before posting their sweeping comments re. "children" and "grumpies" T |

Some people are just venting. Besides, the "other" bulletin board is heavily censored, the moderators insert * in place of letters in quite innocent words, so people come to 44 to speak freely.

They are far too many spiteful little arses on this site, I see people innocently asking for advice on the TRNC berated for "not doing their research." Asking questions on this forum is a valid form of research particularly as this forum is always the first thing that pops up on a search engine when you type in North Cyprus. I saw a post from one young person asking for some tips as they were moving over in a month's time for a new job and the smug, furious and incoherent comments made me feel quite ill. Apparently the rubbery-skinned expats think people should have spent 20 years researching every country in the world in case one day a vacancy came up.

Fair enough Harry, but please bear in mind that we get posts by wind-up merchants purporting to be after information.

got to say this , any one who took that thread to heart for what ever reason beggars belief , yes cyp44 is a mine of information , but some of us also like a laugh if thats still allowed ? no names were mentioned , in fact it reached its total permitted posts without any slagging , fighting or back biting , which if you stick around long enough you will see thats somewhat of a rarity , it was quite a few members having a laugh , and if you read the thread top to bottom you will quickly realise that .

I felt uncomfortable about the silly season thread as it would put me off asking for help. I have been a member of this site for a number of years and constantly see what I consider sensible posts turn into targets of derision. It does feel there is a pack of wild dogs just waiting for a weak victim to get within range. I also belong to a bikers site where there is more more constraint shown - Why? because these bikers meet up at rallies and shows and they all know if you can't say something to someones face without the risk of losing your teeth, then don't say it.

CovKid, why on earth would you feel uncomfortable with a silly thread, it was just all nonsense and nobody would ask a sensible question on that thread any way... Many members ask questions regarding other issues which get answered with no problem... The only wild dogs roaming the area are all these strays that get left behind, you only have to look at all the lost doggy threads on here ...

The thread itself was harmless enough but it started out (from memory) having a dig at other threads where people had asked for help. I'm big enough and ugly enough to see past it but I felt any newcomers might be put off the site in general because its a hostile environment. Perhaps the site needs segmenting so that there are 'Serious Questions or Advice Sought' etc and then a 'Rubbish talked at the bar' section. Then if you enter this area you know its all banter and p*** taking. Just a thought
