I remember there was an article in The Living Magazine last year about a chap who is some kind of cacti expert, i think he lives in Lapta, or maybe Alsancak...has a little goatee....Anyway, if anyone knows how i could reach him, i'd be most grateful. DD

daisy. In Esentepe there is a large display of Cacti outside a house at the back of the big church, I don't know if an expert lives there but there certainly are lots of big Cacti, I take a picture of them every year I can't resist the lovely display.

What do you need to know? There may be other people that know a bit about cacti, and I for one would be interested in a chat about them.

Thanks everyone for answering. Basically, i look after a garden that has a fairly large cacti rockery and some of the cacti are extemely large and have become somewhat dangerous and are in need of a definite pruning, but i am unsure of the best way to do this. Also, the weeds are almost impossible to get at, without causing myself injuries, (i have already got a fair amount of stabs to my face). Also there are lots of new babies appearing which need to come out so i need to know the best way to control them. Enchanted...if i can locate this chap, i will try to organise some sort of group chat with him as i am sure there are a lot of folk who could benefit from this. Jeannie...no idea if he has a dogee...lol DD

No need to bother about this one, I've spoken to Daisy Dukes. The cactus specialist, for anybody else who is interested, is Hikmet Uluçam. His placr is in Lapta, on the right hand side of the main road up to Başpinar by the turning to Anastasia.

daisy, first of all snip the sharp ends off the cacti with a pair of secateurs, then you won't get stabbed. then next, take a saw and start to remove the bottom arms of the cacti (in the same way you would remove leaves from a palm) until you have achieved the shape you want. next, and you may have to dig some soil away, get down and just saw or twist the suckers off. hopefully by then, the cacti will be less dangerous! and also have a nice shape. hope this helps.
