I'll believe it when it happens. I think that the ROC officials will still try to throw a few spanners in the works first, but I hope that I'm wrong.

Very pleased to hear this news. Sporting competition has the ability to defuse tensions and promote settlement. This is another small step on the road to continued peace and settlement.

The article in the link does not reflect the truth.. After consulting the political parties in the north the TC FA has been instructed by the officials not to accept such a proposal.

You cannot be serious this is the WORST possible news. It will give all the hotheads a chance to cause problems between the communities. Think back to all the football violence in England during the 70s and then add in the ethnic problems that exist in Cyprus. You may remember that El Salvidor and Honduras went to war over a game of football.

Jimmy g Totally correct. It will never happen same as the talks will not achieve anything. If there were to be a match I guarantee it would descend into fighting both on and off the pitch

Re : msg 6 The reason for refusing UEFA's proposal was that it would mean reckognizing ROC.. TC FA wants to be reckognized independently by UEFA (which is no different than requesting TRNC's international reckognition) Turkish Cypriot clubs broke away to form their own Cyprus Turkish Football Federation when communal violence erupted on the Mediterranean island in 1955 while it was still under British colonial rule. When the island won independence in 1960, it was the Greek Cypriots clubs still in the Cyprus FA that won recognition as members of UEFA and FIFA and Turkish Cypriot clubs have since been excluded from all international competition.
