HI. My sister is going to Paphos on holiday and wants to come and visit us for one night. I believe that she would have to pay 25 euros to bring her hire car in to Metahan but wondered if there was somewhere she could park the car at Ledra and walk over and we would then pick her up. If anyone can help direct her to a car park near the Ledra crossing we would all be very grateful. Many thanks

Hi Loads of places .... she can park up about 150m from the "rump" RoC police checkpoint - close to the taxi ranks - not clearly sign posted.. she might have to stop and ask for directions to the Ledra Hotel.

Hi Fires_starter Why better ? Where would you suggest parking @ Ayios Dometios? ( Metahan) Crossing on foot at Ledra is much safer.. Ayios Dometios / Metahan is NOT geared up for pedestrians. The lady could leave her car parked outside the Race Course, I suppose, but the parking near the Taxi Rank @ Ledra is busier and *I'd* rather leave my car where there is more activity, and at least - although there is a small fee - most of the time the car is watched !

Kermia is not so easy to cross (no specific pedestrian walkways), but perfectly safe, and unless the person knows the areas well, easier to find, could park opposite the customs caravan (manned 24/7) slightly towards the insurance booths. see http://wikimapia.org/#lat=35.1795787&lon=33.3223915&z=16&l=0&m=a&v=2 if you need a good interactive map. Mark does have a point about care when parking though, crime levels in the South are far higher than the North, so care should be taken when choosing a spot.

brian also there are lots of houses in that area, why not just park in a normal street. this area always has lots of people around.

Hi Brian Can you back up you contention re "Car Crime" in "the south" being higher?! Having lived in "the south" - frequently leaving my car unlocked - in Limas(so)l I find your comment strange. I was merely suggesting it is more reassuring, in a strange place to have your car observed .... Have you seen the speed some folk drive down residential side streets... ?! Off road parking for me ! ;)

Nobody has said which crossing Ledra palace or Ledra St. Ledra Palace better for collecting someone, plenty of places to wait. As person from the North approaches the crossing turn right then left and you have a big park for I think 4ytl per day. Nice guy sits all day and watches cars. Not had problems there.

Hi Brezey - good point.. I'm referring to the original crossing point at the Ledra Hotel and referred to the hotel in my post.. but it is good to clear the point up. Could I also remind you that the poster told us that the friend is coming from SOUTH side, so would be leaving her car THAT side !

Can't go with breeezyboys directions because as I mentioned in my original posting. My friend is coming from the south to visit the north and so she needs to park up near to the Ledra St crossing.

Hi Dozza67 aha, you have now said Ledra STREET crossing.. my instructions were for Ledra Palace.. Parking on the "southside" near Ledra Street?! OMG.. it is a rabbit warren of confusing one-way streets as you skirt the green line.. There is no on road free parking.. the streets are simply too narrow.. Really, I'd meet at the old Ledra ( Palace) hotel crossing - quieter both ends!

Thank you for that Mark, I have only just seen your last posting and one of the things I was going to ask you was - Ledra St or Ledra Palace. Selective reading, sorry but thank you. Actually, we don't know where either of the crossings are or that there were 2 crossings so if you could help just a little more please. They are bringing their sat nav with them so that they can find their way to Nicosia but I need to give them more precise directions to the old Ledra (Palace) crossing we would be grateful. Could do with directions to the crossing from our side as well please. Thanks

or try this ! the TC crossing point is right at the top middle of the photo and moving south there is a patch of no mans with the old Armenian district to the right and the Ledra Palace Hotel to the left At the bottom of the no-mans land there is on of the "stars" / points of the old walled city .. this is the part where TCs can overlook GCs passing on a pavement below and this is opposite CYTA ( Cyprus Telephone Authority) You'll see a roundabout and this is the place you need to be near to drive as close to Ledra Palace and park up near to the taxi rank.. To get there.. Come in to Nicosia on the A1 motorway from Limasol and don't turn left or right until you are FORCED to do so in the city centre...stay left and you'll be fine.. When you are forced to turn left ( the road in front will be a one way street facing you!) move over to the middle land and turn right, after 200m - having turned right , stay in the left lane, and you will se the city walls on your right after 35

city wall on your right after 350m. ooops here the map.. http://tinyurl.com/8j27em at the next traffic lights turn right and you will be at the roundabout by the city walls and you can se TC/TR flags at the top of the wall.. This is Paphos ( Paphou) Gate You need to take the second exit that will have the wall parallel to you on the right This will take you to the taxi ranks and the car park. From there they walk. http://www.map-cyprus.net/images/maps/2000/lefk_centre_n.jpg
