tin pan ally in girne they come and fit one at the top of the door and one at the bottom each has a key. Very good I know of 5 property's that have been saved from burglary thanks to this type of lock, they can also be fitted to windows.

A temporary quick fix for SLIDING doors and windows. Stick a piece of wood or metal in the slider channel on the inside so the door will not slide open. They can try as hard as they like no sliding door or window will open. Just a cheap temp. fix. Feel safe at night

I have used the 'Lump of metal' (or wood) method, and while it is quite secure in the UK, the design of sliding patio doors (mine, at any rate!) is different in TRNC. In the UK, you tend to have one fixed door, and one 'slider', whereas in TRNC both doors seem to be 'sliders', and the one with the weakest latch is the outside one, which it is not possible to protect by this method - the lump of metal would be on the outside also! If using the excellent pin locks, don't forget to protect all sliding windows, no matter how small, as well as patio doors. As I said on a previous thread, a PIR security light or two ( considerately placed ), and an Alarm Box (real or otherwise) have proved to be worth their weight in gold, in my experience. Keith.

Is crime generally, and burlary in particular on the increase in TRNC? It used to be promoted as a virtually crime free country! Mind you...the same people also tell you that Lapta is but a 5 minute drive from Kyrenia ! Nige...msg 10....thanks for this useful information....I have never been happy with the standard locks on my doors and windows and will take your advice on my next trip out.

If you are in the Uk or have friends there try http/www.handlestore.com They are selling those at £6-31 inc vat, cheapest I have seen and they have an extra locking point so that you can lock the door in a vent position. Good price for window locks as well.

Pipie, They drill a hole through the bottom which goes straight through both window/doors. then they put in a lock which means you can't move the windows at all. Very simple but very effective!

The locksmith on the left of tin pan alley supplies and fits these patio and window locks 40ytl fitting fee plus 14ytl per lock, these locks do not need a key so no fiddling about, they just push in twist and lock! simple but effective.

Skybluesam, I like the idea of a twist lock without keys. Do I take it that you have two locks per set of patio doors both fitted in the middle section one at the top and one at the bottom? and is it 40 YTL total fitting fee? or per lock?

Hi Millzer - Ok I can give you the answer I have recently had all of my windows done with the pin / twist locks. Great guy - provided and fitted them and very good locks. The locks were either YTL12 or 14, and YTL40 for fitting them (not per window) - although that was per floor - whole house may be a little more as I did the downstairs first. The local locksmith is Serdar Locksmith - 05428510608. Hope that helps And you re right - this thread is what this board should be all about !

You are right in saying total fitting fee is 40ytl and each lock 14 ytl as per your assumption.
