Hi Guvenen , welcome to the forum , i've only been there once so i don't think i can pass comment . But Jo valentine { co member of the board } stays there when she goes there , and she 's very happy with the place

Hello Guvenen

As Simbas so rightly says, I always stay at The Fez and have no hesitation in recommending. The food is always good, steaks excellent, even the chip butties are well cooked. Always sensible prices and everything is a credit to Hayal and her staff. Don't just take my word for it.. http://www.thefez.co.uk/

Thanks for taking the time to reply. We fancied a beer late one afternoon in September, and as we had not previously been there, I said lets have a look in the Fez. We walked through the lounge, into the courtyard and I thought it looked lovely. Walked up to the bar, one guy behind the bar serving someone. Did not acknowledge us, continued to serve said person. We sat on bar stools. Bartender then went to look at diary. Phone rang, he answered, then wrote in diary. Still did not acknowledge us. Husband getting twitchy. Bartender then served someone else then walked out the back - 7 minutes have now passed, voted with our feet. There was an Asian waiter inside and asked us if there was a problem, we said yes we are thirsty. There were lots of people there, but no-one waiting for service apart from us. It was about 5:30 in the afternoon. I was FURIOUS! How rude, are we invisible? Will never set foot in that place again and have told everyone I met how I feel. Grrrrr.

Most strange, sorry for your experience, normally the service is very good, give them another chance it really is a great place with a lovely fire, great Sunday lunches and a lovely atmosphere.

When i came to live on the island a couple of years ago i was made to feel very welcome by everyone there.

i really am most surprised.

I arranged to meet a lady in the Fez,as a convenient place none of us knew before.

It could have been a pub anywhere in UK," fullsized TV screens blaring out Football matches,another smaller one live horse racing.Pub full of mothers with babies,drinking pintsand fathers or partners doing the same.

I ordered 2 glasses of wine,1 red,1 white...not asked if a choice,poured into measuring jugs,then into glasses.......

Not for me sorry,don't know where customer base is from Fez not for me

Me and my husband are not fans of the Fez either I'm afraid. As Mikelapta says it could have been a pub anywhere in the UK. Sorry.

it is supposed to be like an English pub, there are loads of bland bars with white walls and cold floors where you have to keep your coat on to keep warm,it is also spotlessly clean,and no lipstick on your glass.

As for the sport, it has the best facilities bar none, if you love your sport there is only one place to go on a Saturday afternoon, and its only 3tl for a pint of Carlsberg.

I can honestly say that we stayed there in September for a week and it was great, the food is very good and reasonable and the staff are very friendly (well they was with us) I also met another couple whilst we were there (Joe Valentine) and she too recommends the Fez very much.

I really enjoyed it there and have recomended the Fez to a few friends, it is very clean and beautiful and we are hoping to stay there again when we go over around April.

There are a lot of expats in the bar but they made us feel very welcome, the atmosphere I thought was excellent, however we did not go inside we stayed on the outside bar like everyone else due to the weather it was too hot.

So I cannot comment on what it is like in the inside bar where the big screens are.

All I can say is I would recommend the Fez very much for any age group!!!!!!

this is a great bar/ pub/ restaurant you can watch sports yes a bit like a pub , but they do good entertainment nights as well, good prices 3 ytl for a draft beer . but most of all when the sunshines and the outside bar opens again this is a cypriot courtyard bar . try it u wont be dissapointed .

Nice place, good food.

Called in at 8pm for a pint on New years eve, but the place was closed, (all in darkness) I was a bit surprised, but may have been opening later on.

Have been to the Fez in summer & winter, it is great for both seasons.



Lovely fire and a sports bar with great value beer for winter.



In summer the courtyard is spot on for a drink or an entertainment night.



Pool area also 1st class. Accomodation also great value with all of the above on tap.

You either love it (mixed grill platter and giant chips to die for plus friday fish'n'chips in paper)or you dont,good balance of pub atmostphere with fire and outside Cypriot bar in Summer..........

It`s a great place and they made me very welcome and looked after me many a time especially when i first arrived in the country. Ali will have been the barman who was a bit slow as i think he is the bar manager and looks after the food, bookings and till primarily, give him a shout!!! he doesn`t mind. It is mainly an ex pat pub and early bar can be a bit hectic.

Great food, great people, lovely pool and courtyard and much nicer allround than a lot of the typical rustic cypriot bars but you cant allways please everyone

Yes you are both correct.



I must say that the T Bone steaks are a credit to the Fez and a good price too.



They also care about their neighbours. Music is cut by 11.30pm at the latest and usually 11pm. I commend them for it. Unlike Bar 11, which insists music is at 110 decibels until 1am.

Sorry, NOT for my liking. Agreed the place is clean, yes it is styled like an English pub, and also the locals are friendly. But 3ytl for a small draught Effes???? and 12 for a sandwich, the place has gotta be one of the dearest around.

One could always stay in the UK, go to the local pub, watch the football (or sport!) have pie and chips and buy a sun lamp. Probably cheaper! Alternatively one could find a local eaterie and sample the local food, talk to the locals, learn about their culture and learn the language. Who knows, it may provide knowledge that will enable one to avoid future problems. Enlightenment, no less!

I understand while people would want to sample local cultures, food, life etc. However, it is a well known fact, that the Diaspora, from wherever they originate, will always hanker for a "little taste" of what they left behind. There is no harm in that, is there? Places like the Fez, openly state what type of establishment they are and to what type of cuisine or tatstes they cater for. Well, that has been my experience from the times I have been in there and others like it when over in the TRNC. Knocking an establishement that is trying to make an "honest buck" is grossly unfair IMHO. Sure, you may not like football, steak pie or bangers and mash, if this is the case, then there are far more "local style" restaurants than there is "British style". Places such as Catalkoy, Ozankoy, Lapta and Karsiyaka have the largest numbers of the expat community on the island. In these troubled economic times, Im sure that places like, The Fez, The Old Mill, The Stumble in and others provide a

service that is acceptable and wanted by their customers. They may not be everyones "cup of tea", but they are businesses at the end of the day and they have to make ends meet. Just my thoughts, from someone who likes to try both the local and expat places when there.

Must have got them on an off day then, but like Guvenen we was waiting over 20 mins to get served with drinks, no one at bar waiting, 4 of us, us two men over 6 foot so not hard to see, totally ignored. like I said must have got them on an off day

I haven't been to the Fez for years as it is a long way from where I live. Everyone who has posted has a valid point of view so perhaps one of the regulars could just mention the issue of service at the bar and all will be well for those that visit in the future.

We don't mind waiting, if it's busy and if we are acknowledged and apologised to, but just to be totally ignored, maybe our faces did not fit. The Barman was English, dark hair, good looking bloke, so not an "Ali". I also know it's popular for TV sports etc. All we wanted was a drink tho..

We stayed at the Fez and were impressed by the friendliness of Hayal and the staff. It was also lovely food. We will certainly be visiting again whilst

Guvenen i like many others have been drinking and dining at the Fez for the last 2yrs and have always found the staff and the owners very friendly and very helpful,but on reading your thread 10 you say you were sat there for seven minutes without being acknowledged or served or even appologised to,did it not occur to you to say excuse me or even try to speak to the said barman,and as you said the barman never spoke so how do you know he was english? I speak as i find and suggest that you get out a little more often and get to know these places and the people that use them,i also read your thread on the Dream Castle where you say that "the staff are attentive (although one is a bit over attentive)" what can i say there is no pleasing some people!

He was very English, ( he spoke to others and on the phone )

Hard to get attention when there is no eye contact, and being the customer, should I actually have to?



I will ignore your closing derogatory remarks, suffice to say, I was asking for opinions, which I have received with thanks. I then gave our opinion, and I am pleased to see our experience was was hugely in the minority.
