Just see it as good news that the norths football teams may be able to intergrate within Europe. And also see it as a stepping stone from isolation in the sporting world as a whole. The fact that the powers that be are even talking about it i.m.o.has to be seen as good news, Paul.

Dreadful news If anyone on this board realised the level of football violence back in the UK in the 70s and 80s and which still continues today, should be fearful of this news. One riot at one match between teams from the North and South resulting in serious injury could spread to cross border terrorism and maybe lead to open conflict between the hotheads and later their followers. This is possibly the most serious crisis this island could face in the last 30 years and every one seems to think it a great idea.

newlad your Message 8 here is my view why won't the GC's let football teams from the TRNC play matches against international teams (remember what happened with Luton in 2007 or was it 2008) without joining the Cyprus Football Association (CFA) it's because they want to have control and will not let the TRNC teams just play these matches without their say so. It is all about the embargoes again!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peter, I thinkyour missing the point here .And yes i do remember the Luton episode. But surely if the way was cleared and the north invited back then teams from England and all over the world would be invited in to play games.Thats how i see it anyway, Paul.

Paul, I'm sure the Cyprus Football Association (CFA) will have the say so on who teams from the TRNC can play and then there would also be restrictions such as the International Teams must not enter/leave Cyprus through an illegal entry point ie Ercan. I can easily see the situation where a team from the TRNC has a match against a team from one of the UK leagues and CTA or Pegasus decide to sponsor the cost of their flights and of course the TRNC would wish to give this as much publicity as possible. I can guarantee that the s**t would hit the fan (not a football fan but one on the ceiling!!!!!!!!!) so to speak.

Peter, Respect your point of view but cannot agree with you.But what the hell who would have thought after the n.c. recieved a 50 year ban there would even be talk about the n.c. being allowed back in.Over the last couple of weeks there has been a lot of encouraging signs for north cyprus, and this announcement today certainly floats my boat, Regards, Paul.

Just watch any premiership match between the big four and you can see the HATE the supporters have for the opposition players and the rival supporters. The police have had years of experience keeping a lid on the situation inside the grounds but outside is a different matter. Orchestrated violence still takes place between rival firms though not much is reported in the press. Transfer to Cyprus where the TRNC police are pretty good at stopping motorists but would not have a clue at dealing with footie fans out for a bit of violence. How this is relevent to the 70s and 80s in the UK is that then the police struggled to keep it under control and shopping centres, pubs and the like were no go areas on a Saturday afternoon. Can you imagine rival supporters in Girne mingling with the tourists.

C.J. Maybe it would be a good idea then for the english police to go over to the n.c. and show them the way that matches are policed. From what i have read in the papers the police in Southern Cyprus really struggle to contain the yobs. I actually gew up through the violence of the 70s and eighties so i do know where you are coming from there.Dont think that it still goes on now though.Due to cctv etc.I have been all over the country and abroad over the last ten years watching football and i can honestly say that trouble has been really minimal, Paul.

Back on thread anyway, The north being invited back into the fold would bring massive publicity to the island, which in turn would bring in the tourists, which in turn would boost the economy, and create jobs, fill up the hotels and put the north squarely on the map.I am sure the police will be able to sort out a few yobbos. Why have the minority spoiling everything for the majority, Paul.

Newlad The trouble nowadays is not at the matches but generally before the games. The firms pre arrange the meet and post lookouts for police monitoring the area for this kind of trouble. The area agreed is a cctv free zone and generally kicks off as arranged. Generally no knives but anything else but no serious injury. Their are rules but if it gets out of hand then next time retribution etc. England away is not on these lines but just big groups hitting on a few isolated supporters. Fast forward this to Cyprus and you have mayhem, but on top of this add in religion and the Cyprus situation and the police frightened to intervene as it would probably make matter worse. The would put the Country back decades re so called peace.

oh my god cjtill didnt think about it like that religion etc i know how they love thier football both sides. oh well do you think if they reach a solution and hey may have the world as a stage it could be different. you have so much more knowledge than i . sport seems to unite everybody but i guess i am only thinking uk. sorry about myuse of smalll charcaters but if i put caps on they stay on and then im accussed of shouting. if you take ireland as an example where all the emotions etc ran riot they have become great ambasadors for sport weather they are catholic or prostant. rugby football etc they unite as i am sure a lot of countries do. i think the GLORYof the game will be the deciding factor take care xxxx

Paul, I wish I had a copy of the official response to your msg 47 but I fear that from the press here that this is still a none starter. If memory serves me correctly one person has said yes to a joining up which has been picked on by the RoC press but the rest of commitees still say b****** off. As for the other ball shaped game, it will start soon and hopefully with an even more exciting league than last year. Being an all round supporter of sport Union and League have a lot to offer. As for those with round balls you have the cheats called Rooney and Ronaldo to kick you at every opportunity
