North Cyprus recommended in the travel section of today's Daily Mirror. Small paragraph (better than nothing) under Turkey heading advising best place for couples. Here's hoping people see it and start visiting.

thetruth, Without tourism the place you love will die a death. There is only so much money you all have to spend and new revenue streams must be opened to keep a country alive as well as growing. No new money means grippling debt and then bankruptcy. Do you want to have rampant inflation like Zimbabwe? With Education and Construction money drying up quickly, the only thing North Cyprus has to offer is tourism. If that stops, North Cyprus will stop too.

These positive press articles are encouraging. With the weak £ the TRNC is an attractive option against Euro zone destinations. There will, without doubt, be an increase in visitors in 2009. People shopping for their summer break will see the financial attraction of TRNC. There will be a higher demand for airline seats and hopefully this will lead to more flights or even direct flights. The ROC is in the Euro Zone and not able to compete with TRNC for UK buisness. However the benefits of an increase in Cypriot visitors will ultimately benefit all as visitors are curious to cross the border to see the other half.

I think the country that will benefit most this year will actually be Turkey, rather than the TRNC. There was a small piece in The Mail on Sunday today saying that bookings for Turkey are already up by 20% on last year. Turkey still apparently represents reasonable value for money, especially compared to countries in the Eurozone, has good weather and direct flights. They also seem to have personnel employed in their Tourism industry who know what they're doing. J

msg 9 I concur. Turkey will benefit for the same reasons that TRNC will Turkey has a much bigger Tourist Industry than TRNC and so the increase that you indicate is expected. I would expect that TRNC will be blessed with similar increases for the same currency incentives and particularly after the popular press recomendations of the last few days.

Message 10 - let's hope so! Incidentally, I think the postings I've seen on here lately about TRNC becoming a "haven" for stag and hen weekends is very much wide of the mark! I can't quite see crowds of young blokes and young women in pink cowboy hats hooting and hollaring around Girne harbour, can you? Mind you - I've seen a lot of them at Larnaca airport!

Wicks, Can't imagine a stag party spending much time around the harbour area, just past the bend out past Karsiyaka a bit more likely, or on the outskirts of Nic

Its time that the trnc tourist board got their bottoms into gear, the weak pound gives them the perfect opurtunity to promote the north for this spring and summer.A chance like this must not be missed, Paul.
