| We have a 2 year old Acer laptop 4520. It is only used with word program, never on the internet. Occasionally dark patches appear on the screen for half a second and the picture on the screen seems unstable. Then everything reverts to normal again. What can be wrong? Who can help? |

| Either there is a power problem to the screen or your graphics card is breaking down. Repairs are possible. In the TRNC , not sure who touch such a high end specification machine, but if you only use the laptop for word applications you may as well buy a new one at around £170 in the UK. |

| To determine whether it is a graphics card problem or a screen problem try to borrow a monitor and plug it into your external monitor port, you will have to switch between the laptop screen and the monitor using the Fn key and whatever function key (top row of your keyboard) has been assigned to that particular task. | just read your answers and advice! thanks. Since writing this post, the laptop has behaved itself....no problems! We are wondering if it only happens when it is working on the battery. will check that out first. We have another identical laptop(the one I am now using!).....can I connect the two laptops together and test my husband's laptop screen through my laptop screen? If so what sort of cable do we need and where do we plug it in? |

| Augusta 'We have another identical laptop(the one I am now using!).....can I connect the two laptops together and test my husband's laptop screen through my laptop screen? If so what sort of cable do we need and where do we plug it in?' As far as I know that is not easy if not impossible to do. A stand alone monitor is the easiest way to check. So I would beg steal or borrow AJ |
