Our gas heater seems to be giving some problems as the Carbon Monoxide alarm tends to go off after the heater has been on for a while. With all the recent reports I do not particularly want to keep using it and wondered if anyone knows if there is anyone who carries out repairs/ service on these heaters. I would appreciate any information.

carmel, This is actually a good thing, it confirms you CO detector is working. All gas fires give of CO, can't be prevented, and if it is a free standing gas fire as I suspect it is, I don't believe you can adjust the jets/pressure. When using ANY gas fire (except a combi boiler etc which send fumes out through flue), there must always be a window open, and people should never leave one running at night whilst alseep. If your CO detector goes off, it's a sign to open a window for a while. At least you have the good sense to have a detector. Carry on using it, but open window a little, and do not leave on unattended.

gas heaters don't generate a "nice" heat, i'd avoid one at all costs.... When i say all costs, if someone was to give me one with free gas, then i'd use it though.... Nick

Mike, Not quite right, CO2 (Carbon dioxide) and H2O (Water Vapour) are products of complete combustion (when you burn Methane or Butane) . CO (Carbon monoxide) is what you get when CO2 is burnt again, due to lack of ventilation or faulty gas fire. Carmel, even though the Carbon monoxide alarms are very sensitive, you do have a problem and dont use until you sort it out. JB

Thank you folks, I had better cut down on the use of it anyway. Just trying to avoid using the air con all the time. Anyway weather is very mild so not a big problem. Thanks again.
