For anybody that may be interested, the rotten corrupt Labour Government have given the go ahead for a new 3rd Runway at Heathrow. This is close to where I am currently living and grew up around the areas/villages that will be bulldozed. Two of the Historic buildings that will be bulldozed is a Norman church that has featured in films and one of the only standing Saxon buildings in the World the Tithe barn. What a disgrace this Lot are to allow this to happen! nunu1

Yes Im just watching Boris live now...the Man speaks sense! This is a much better option! Heathrow is the only building site in the World with its own airport! Its time to build a brand new airport from scatch... nunu1

As the lable of 'London' Airport seems the encompass and ever widening circle, i.e. 'London' Stansted - it's miles away!! Why don't they just change the name of Hull airport to London Hull Airport. Job done, extra capacity though 'London', no expense of another construction catastrophe, jobs created in a deprived area (actually 'deprived area' probably cover pretty much all the UK), it can serve as a 'northern terminsl', and everyone who has received the alleged handouts can pay it back to help fill the pensions black hole. Every ones a winner (except those that pay back alleged handouts).

Quarmby YES is my answer to you!..... You have no idea what we have to put up with living close to Heathrow! We accept the need for progress and continued business.....but an additional runway and demolishing peoples homes, businesses, schools and Historic buildings is insane and unnacceptable. It makes perfect sense to build a completley new airport from scratch on land that will not affect anybody, homes etc. The Thames estuary site that has been ear marked for years is the perfect site and safer as aircraft depart and land approaching over water rather than populated homes etc. AND dont forget, the issue of pollution and peoples health is very important. Breathing in burnt kerosine every day is very harmful to health! nunu1

London already has 5 airports, which is more than the nearest European capital - Paris. Ironically there are more flights to both Paris & Manchester daily from Heathrow than to any other destinations. The Government and certain business leaders keep talking about economic reasons to justify the expansion and miss the point that it is for environmental reasons that this should be stopped. Not even a proper debate in Parliament to discuss - disgraceful!!

Nunu1 I presume you did not live in the vicinty before the Airport was built? If not surely you were aware of the consequences of living next to an airport, just a point.

Quarmby - Nunu's age on his profile is given as 45, so I think the airport was there before he was. Having said that, possibly nowhere near as extensive as it is now. J

Quarmby I have lived near Heathrow for 37 years. YES aware of some consequences but enough is enough...You have to be realistic and unless you are from this area I dont think with respect you understand the implications. Our local MP John Mcdonell that has battled hard to oppose this insane expansion has been barred from the Houses of Hot air for airing his outrage and views on this decision. (And He is Labour!) The Concervatives and Boris Johnson have strongly opposed this decision and development. nunu1

Everytime they increase the capacity in the south east of the country the number of direct regional departures to foreign destinations decreases as airlines centralise their flights into large hubs.

Cannot understand how anyone who chooses to live close to an airport can complain about problems such as pollution and burnt kerosine. These must have been issues when you moved in?

Genghis the problem here is that those problems will increase and it's the environment that will suffer - this is far bigger than a local issue and London already is well served for airports.

Financially, the enviromental card is played far too much these days and is nothing more than an excuse for governments all over the world to raise taxes. Rest assured this scheme will go ahead with benefits to the UK,and as an added bonus all the locals who have complained for years about the pollution will have their houses compulsory purchased over market value allowing them to live in a more pleasant enviroment. Everyones a winner?

Genghis, how can the environmental card be overplayed when surely that must be the overriding concern rather than financial gain? You've mentioned nimby's but surely you display a similar trait by saying in effect I'm all for it and I don't care about the lasting environmental effects or impact on the future generations? Clearly we have divergent views on this but for what it's worth I still don't think it's going to happen.

i don't agree with the whole enviroment argument,i like many others do not believe the planet is suffering global warming due to co2, if you look at the history of the planet you will clearly see it has always showed patterns of warm/cold over the centuries. One day the world governments will be exposed for using this as an opportunity to gather more and more tax.

Genghis, so in the meantime you're advocating that we sit on our hands do nothing and just leave the global warming issue to future generations - not our problem - and again you confirm that your only concern and consideration is financial. We will never agree on this - but I can live with that.

Thanks for respecting my point of view it makes a nice change from being insulted. I dont donsider it a matter of doing nothing as i dont believe there to be a problem there in the first place,so doing nothing isnt really the question is it?
