Hi all Has anyone produced an idiots guide to living full time in TRNC Things I have in mind are getting on line, mobiles, getting a PO Box, owning a car, how to register it if you do, a rough cost of the above all sorts really as well as answers to question I had not thought to even ask. I have seen posts on most of the above on forum and have read a good book on Cyprus but the author admitted it was bias towards the south as it was easier to research. An indexed guide would be really handy to get started. I would like to have a grasp of things and do my homework before I take the leap but If you know nothing it is sometimes difficult to know whats available and what would be stupid to even ask about. Does that make sense? I fully understand that some things will be gained by experience and when I was out last time everyone was very helpful but I do not want to be able to plan ahead as much as possible.

Annie in the early part of last year an idiot called Northerner tried to enlighten us all under this topic but he's long since gone. The simple answer to your question though is -no there isn't- but there are lots of members here who can give you the benefit of their advice and personal experiences. So if you're prepared to invest a little time in trawling back through this board for information or starting individual threads under each of the things you've mentioned you should be able to stockpile all of the information you need as you will not get everything you require from this one posting but I see from your previous posts that you have made a start on this already. Good luck Good luck

Can I suggest joining the British Residents Society? When you join they give you a pack with a lot of info in, covering some of the points you mention although to be fair, the rules change like the wind in NC. See http://www.brstrnc.com/

OK. This looks just like what I am looking for. I have a website and its intention has been to give an honest guide to living in the TRNC and I want to cover everything. Unfortunately, I am just not getting the time to write all the content and do the research. So if you would to contribute with any info it would be great. Items to cover would be all those listed in MSG1 plus things to do before you get here and anything else you can think of. Please email all contributions to moreinfo@systemlogix.co.uk The website that is under construction is http://www.northerncypruslife.com This site will not have a forum but a link to this one will be put on there. So come on give me all your thoughts and info.

I wish you luck. Unfortunately there are many such sites (commercial basically) that are there to sell something, usually property and the information can't be trusted. I see that your site is a project in progress and last updated last November. With the way things change in NC, you will have to be a tad more up to date I think.

The only commercial part that wil be on the site will be property, classified ads and business adverts. These will not influence the content of the site in anyway.

the trouble here is the rules change on a daily basis, so you will have plenty of updating to do. also how are you going to decide which info is valid and which is gossip so to speak?

The problem in providing such a guide is that the 'rules' are never consistent and th goal posts keep changing from one month to another! If you read many of the posts here you will see many variant solutions or not as the case may be to the same issue! Like traveling anywhere, the journey is as important as the destination. You can only ever get a real feel for a place after you have spent some time in it! People's experiences are different and so it shapes their perspectives. A persons perspective becomes their reality!

Yet the rules keep changing. On one thread someone recently said that when you buy a car, the seller has to go with you to re-register it. When I came here, the seller didn't come with me, they went first. I have just sold my partners car.( He is in Australia) He only had it a short while and never went and registered it as he didn't use it. The person he bought it from went and notified whoever it is that has to be notified,as he was going back to Enbgland. The person I sold it to, just has to go in and re-register it. So who knows what the up to date rules are on anything. Having re=read that, I still don't understand the rules. !
