if its true city are prepared to pay £107 million to transfare brazilian kaka from ac milan and pay the boy 500 thousand pounds a week then i think the game is doomed. hard working people will look at what they are now earning , find it repulsive and walk away for good . the game is doomed! andy

andy there is probably no limit as to what football club owners will do to buy success. We cannot continue with a four club domination in the premier league so I guess others need a chance. Also do you think the club owners really want the local cloth cap supporters. They prefer money from the TV and other revenue raising. Could your club make enough money with empty seats and rely on menchandise, TV and corporate hospitality..the answer may be yes but I have not looked at the accounts. If the profit margin is more that gate income the answer is yes..... Arsenal would love to be in the top four but if they wont spend the money....

Andysue I think it is insane and disgraceful that this kind of money is talked about and paid for somebody that kicks a piece of leather around. I think the Governments around the World should get together and stop this ridiculas transfer fees occuring. A top Doctor, Heart surgeon, Soldier or Pilot deserve to earn this kind of money, but not a footballer. Im an armchair supporter of Chelsea, I cannot afford to go to see the matches live!!! nunu1

Yes, it's crazy.. and we all said the same about Chelsea.. all that money hasn't bought the European Cup and the league looks unlikely on current form playing the other top teams Fools and money.. luckily Aston Villa and Arsenal sem to be managing to just hold on to the coat tails of the big spenders.. and look at Everton... I'm a Leeds supporter and I saw what spending to keep the dream did... We got to the semis of the European Cup BEFORE the spending went mad..

AndySue Does not the owner of Man Utd owe hundreds of millions to banks yet how much did they pay for Berbatov? Liverpool owners again owe millions. Yes £100m transfer and the rumoured wages cannot be really justified but can for example Ronaldo or Rooney's? The big clubs in Europe have pushed up the transfer fees (Chelsea contributing more than most in recent times) and the wages so they are not innocent in the position we find ourselves complaining about today.

You cant blame Man C for trying to buy the best if they have the money to spend. You cant blame the player for earning lots of money. You can blame Sky as they still make a profit so, like any business Market Forces Dictate, even though all 20 premier league teams are in debt. Good luck Man C fans and lets hope he joins and we can hear all the other teams complain.

As a Man City Fan, how come the current vitriol did not come out years ago. Manchester United were not accused by all and sundry of living in football's madhouse when they paid £30m for Rio Ferdinand, the same for Juan Sebastian Veron, £27m Wayne Rooney and £30m for Dimitar Berbatov. If you had told anyone let alone a Manchester City fan last May that they would sign Robinho and then agree a fee in excess of £100m for his Brazil team-mate Kaka, they would have laughed (or cried) in your face. And if any football fan around the country says they would not welcome Kaka at their club, providing the owners could afford it, they may just be telling porkies. Yes the money is obscene but it is not money from Man City but our benefactors who have got their money from everyone who buys fuel for their cars etc. Abromovitch wasted his money on Chelsea, let the Arabs give theirs to Man City and even some back to the Government in VAT!

[Must admit, best away pies at your place.] As you know, we are realist city fans - so good luck for tomorrows match, we will be there to cheer our Brazilians on, and a few Europeans ones as well! Kaka not here yet.......shame he's not a defender. |

lets get it something straight im not bothered if citys benefactors out bid man u for a player by say a couple of million , but to break the world transfare record by some sixty million is simply barmy its as arsene wenger said " going to create serious problems". also what will happen if these people get fed up and walk away? seems to be a talking piont on tailsport tonight , roman abramovic not been seen at chelsea for ages and all the money hes thrown at the club is infact a loan at zero percent interst but he wants it back. . going to be interesting this. andy

do we have a national team where do they all come from. big guys pay big bucks from these players many come from countries where that would buy the whole nation. then they get a w a g who will become a fashion icon or tv presenter . only in the uk hello uk all the glossies will feature them and give them millions/ The poor people from his country will they get anyhing. I am being stupid because I know he does give a great deal of his money back. Maybe other player from other countries also do.so maybe the owners of these clubs can do it this way and avoid tax xx

If I was a central defender playing premiership football for 20k a week and faced Kaka I would break his legs take the red card, life ban and what ever else the FA throw at me. The FA and football in general has gone sour, no wonder Rugby Union and league is now more popular than ever.

re 39 Well that was an objective, reasoned, and very polite response .. Aha.. Liverpool supporter...explains the passionate feelings towards( against) Man U - a *little*. So how come it's OK to call Man U then comment , supportively, on the reported removal from, a darts league, of two teams for foul abusive language behaviour ?! ;) Message 39 was edited for offensive remark. I have deleted the same remark from this post as well even though you were only referring to the offensive remark.

Get your priorities right!!! No one has mentioned how the Mighty Shrimpers [Southend United] gave Scolari's boys a run for their money. I think the point is that this stupid Kaka bid and the resultant running costs for Man City will be unsustainable EVEN if it means that they become a "global brand" That Arab could have bought Southend United for a lot lot less!!!

We all know that a "Brand" takes years to build and has to have some appeal to its customers. I can't think what appeal this situation would have on a world public, has anybody in say China or South America even heard of Man C

re msg 43 "We all know that a "Brand" takes years to build ..has anybody in say China or South America even heard of Man C" Well there's two ways to look at that .. Man C play Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea... at least two times a year..if they stay up ! F1 "gurus" Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore said they would have QPR in the premiership within 4 years when the bought an interest..

You are right Mark but so do Wigan and West Brom but will these become "Brands" ...................I doubt it. Its interesting though, is becoming a large "Brand" the goal (pardon the pun) here or is it just a play thing for a group of fabulously wealthy people.

Truffles Well done for today watched the game on the internet you played us off the park in the first half and the second half was ours cant believe ZAKI's miss. Never mind 4th bottom for wigan every year is a major success. The championship and division 1 is littered with teams that think they can compete with the big boys.Look at Charlton consistently mid table for a decade fans thought they should have been competing for Europe they get rid of Curbishley next thing bottom of the championship.Know your place and accept it.Next season will be interesting for City fans i firmly believe that for any team to win the Prem you have to have been there before tremendous pressure and media attention Man utd,Chelsea,Arsenal have that experience. Liverpool have never been under such intense pressure Mondays derby game will be massive and the Toffees would love to turn them over just to kill of their title chances as already stated KNOW YOUR PLACE and thats 3rd place for the scousers

Andy isnt there a football club closer to home like say..... wigan? Typical United fan, while you may be closer than most you still suffer from the rag short sightedness, you werent complaining when you were the ones with the cash were you? Why dont you support your local team? Or are they not rich enogh for you? Why shouldnt clubs like City and others get a chance at the big time? like it or not football these days is based on money, what you dont like it someone else having some!!!

Good result for you today, but hey you only played Bolton, I could get a team from esenteppe to beat them. You really struggled today boys like you did against Wigan . pressure is on. LOL Ron(aldo) |

I worked in Manchester at that time .. Wasn't it great to go into work on the Monday after Liverpool were going to "Lie down" to ensure we got the title .. True sportsmanship from Liverpool ... Could you say the same of M.U. the last match of the season when West Ham played needing a win ... Would West Ham have won had M.U needed 3 points to win the title ... Didn't do Wigan, Sheff Utd any favours .. I rest my case ..

Certainly was ... Upset him by hanging a Rovers shirt in the front bedroom window for all to see ... Actually we were in Turkey that day on a trip to Cappodocia .. Coming out of an open air museum the morning after I was wearing the away shirt & 2 turkish soldiers sitting on a wall looked at the badge & said "Kenny Dalgleish" you are "Champions".. Had I not phoned my brother in law the night before, I would have had to take their word for it .. Going to bed now .. As you said the rest is history..

no im a man utd season ticket holder, my club are were they are thro hard work and sound buisines sense not being lucky enough like city to have been bought out by some daft arab group who dont know what to spend their money on . Oh please, your club are between 650 and 700 million pounds in the red. Hardly sound business sense. Selling rancid meat to schools isn't something I'd be proud of either. Football for the clubs outside of the Sky four was killed years ago. There is no way any other teams can compete because you have the champions league sewn up between yourselves. The top four keep raking in the CL money and everyone else falls further behind every season. United have broken the transfer record more than any other team in England. Was it not they who paid 30 million plus for Ferdinand, a centre half, a fair few years ago? Your hypocrisy is breathtaking.

Funny old game football..bit like life really.. that is funny too..some of the time. We all want to be in the Premier league but for most it turns into a nightmare. Norwich should have stayed up in 2005 but didn't and now we find ourselves having more fun with bigger crowds than Leeds in the old 3rd div. We have to aim for the Premier I guess but it looks like fools gold to me. Kinda reminds me of the banking crisis. Even the big players are in massive debt and the thing is void of reality.

Turtle, I agree there will be a super league with the continential clubs involved. Sky are the root of the trouble, not only with football but cricket, catering to a minority audience.

I disagree "vicbruce". I do not think it is the fault of Sky. Sky provide a service at a price. It's idiots like me who feel that the price is worth paying. However, there are times when I feel it is not good value for money. Sky can be accused of having a monopoly and taking advantage of this.

I only got Sky for the cricket. No doubt i'm in a tiny minority on here with few cricket fans about. To be fair they cover it well and put money into grass roots cricket but Test matches at home should be on free view tv. The kids will loose interest if it stays only on Sky. Most parents (Dads) who get Sky are football fans primarily and likely they get their sons to follow their team...90% of the time for one of the big 4 I guess. Even if they are from yarmouth they will support Man U probably.

msg 104, Tootie, it's a good job your namesake was a better aero engineer than you are a speller. Isn't it obvious, even to you, from the number of postings that soccer interests a lot of members of this forum. If you don't like it, ignore it, like any half intelligent person would. What are you interested in, not that most of us will be bothered overmuch. Get a team, get a life, get a wi. Forget that bit. Tony
