Hi All, I've been reading this board for weeks,so many issues and information it has been a great help in my research.I'm buying in Bogaz and i've never been to the island at all!North or South,so all of the problems of the divide don't really enter my decision that i've made as i'm only looking for a holiday home to use with my family in the med.I'm hoping i really like the place and the people.I'm staying in the south and i've booked a few days in the north to have a look around so i will be spending an equal amount of time in both sides. In my lifetime (44yrs),i've seen russia become friends with the USA,i've seen the Berlin Wall pulled down, and i've seen Ireland sort all its problems out,so from a neutral point of view i'm hoping that CYPRUS can sort things out too via the EU.The way i see it is that both sides have to give and take!!

It seems that many people all nationalities seem to be either living or purchasing property in TRNC,if the numbers keep going up sooner or later the EU will have to sort it out as so many EU citizens will be there living and working. Perhaps they should form a lobby group to take the plight of the TRNC to the EU as EU CITIZENS. Demanding that as EU citizens, they should be living in a recognised state without trade restrictions etc. Just a thought! maybe someones already doing it.

Hi Sarajane its "eastcoast residence" i'm going over this wk/end to take a look around.i paid my deposit about 18 months ago and i'm supposed to be getting the keys in March 08.I understand from the agent that there has been some hold ups but im in no rush as i'm in for the long run,i'm a builder myself so i know these things happen. If i really like it and i don't get the keys for next summer i will rent somewhere for a few weeks instead. The Ceasar resort looks good,i may take a look as i'll be in the area.

Hi Paul here's a question,is there any karaoke in NC? no i'm not your average british lager lout type. I enjoy the finer things in life like unspoilt landscapes and walks etc,but i must admit,i do like a good singsong!

Hi sporty can i just ask you to remember not to carry any paper work with you with regards your purchase to the south, the greeks can make things very difficult for you if they find anything about the north on you, have a great time. Mark

thanks for that advice, but it would be tempting to do it anyway and then give them a hard time as to why they think as an EU citizen they have a right to tell me what i can and can't have on me,as they are in the EU aswell.Afterall, lets face it,they would be EU citizens also!! In fact perhaps i could have some property details on me from the south too, that'll spice things up!!It seems that they just don't seem to be playing on a level playing field with the North.I'm not taking sides but i will reserve judgement until i see it with my own eyes.

Hi all,

Yes its correct- DONT TAKE ANY NC DOCUMENTS ETC WITH YOU OVER THE BOARDER AS THEY SEARCH YOU AND IT HAS HAPPENED TO MANY ALREADY WHERE THEYVE BEEN CAUGHT OUT!!

IF YOU GET CAUGHT WITH ANY PROPERTY RELATED DOCUMENTS THE GREEKS WILL ARREST YOU AND CONFISCATE YOUR DOCUMENTS AND PASSPORT OFF YOU- SO BE CAREFUL!!!

sporty,

Take davids advice seriously. Please dont take this the wrong way but you musnt go over there with a blaize attitude regarding the greeks and the turks,as you will come unstuck.i have crossed the metehan border a few times now and have never had any trouble whatsoever.perhaps your post number 7 was tongue in cheek,if so then i aplogise, but do not cross the border with any paperwork resembling property.Sorry to sound all authorative but only trying to help.

As for karaoke bars not sure on that you may need to call for uk turk, come on you spurs,

Regards,

Paul.

I think I'm impressed with your "balls" Sporty, investing in somewhere you have never been too!!!!

I could never do that! Having said that, I'm pretty sure that when you do come over, you will love it. I would always say though, don't go South to stay and visit. If you have bught north, stay north, The lifestyle is completley different.

hi Steve you pay your money and you take your chance!must admit,i had a few sleepless nights when i first put the money down. Since then i've bought off-plan in New Zealand after doing the research, however this is just an investment not a holiday home i'll be using like Cyprus,I must be getting immune to taking financial risks as i've not been to New zealand either! But i did watch "lord of the rings" where the scenery was filmed, stunning!

hi Sarahjane if i get to ceasar resort,i'll take some pics no problem.

The Cyprus problem will not be sorted out by the EU that is exactly what the GC's were hoping for when they joined the EU.

The Cyprus problem comes under the auspices of the UN and will in my opinion never be solved.

Hi ukturk, its The Antipodean,in Queens street, right in the heart of the central business district,in AUCKLAND. they're supposed to be starting the build early 2008.When designed 2 yrs ago it was going to be NZ's tallest residencial building,31 floors high,my apt. i'm buying is 4 floors from the top!It has a swimming pool on the 8th floor with a retractable roof(meaning slides back when weather is good)sorry mate i nearly forgot you are a spurs fan!lol! The whole thing is being built around the "st.james theatre". That'll be refurbished as part of the scheme, they apparantly have had acts like james blunt etc there!! They had to revamp the planning +other stuff which has caused an 18mnth delay, does'nt just happen in NC. The agents are just about to relaunch the project,at the up to date prices! An amazing investment from since i put my deposit down. But it was only ever an investment to me,i may pop over to see it when its done, but if i were to buy to use myself it would definately be south island NZ,stunning mountains and scenery.

Hi lovingcyprus,i may be wrong but the way i see it as a totally neutral point of view, the un are there to keep the peace and make sure there are no further military conflicts, the EU however is a group of nations that can not only impose sanctions, can put immense international pressure on both sides North or South. Its also right in their backyard so to speak, obviously kofi annan thinks theres a possibility of reconcilliation and probably many other nations of the EU would like to see it sorted out.I just think sooner or later it will have to be sorted. Hopefully in our lifetime.I just think its really sad that people who grew up a different generation sharing a beautiful island cant see eye to eye after all the heartache their parents and grandparents endured.

Originally, the UN were there to keep the but in 1974 they failed miserably, the fact that there is peace on Cyprus is due to the presence of the Turkish Army and nothing else.

As I said before the Cyprus problem will not be sorted out by the EU and they have acknowledged that it is the UN whose remit it falls under.

Since 1 January 2007 the Secretary-General of the UN is Ban Ki-moon, Kofi Annan's term of office having come to an end.

The EU in my opinion could never impose sanctions on Turkey, (they could delay their application to join the EU but nothing else) whereas the UN could.

There was a real chance of a settlement in 2004 and it is well know what happened so I will not go into it.

The EU would certainly like to see the Cyprus Problem solved.

hi ukturk,i looked at morrocco last year and pulled out of the deal, just a gut feeling!I hope i like Bogaz but i'm going to be looking all around NC to make sure its the right area for me ,but if i see an area which appeals more i may dip my toe in the water elsewhere, but i think to do this i need to buy under a company,i understand you can only own 1 property in own name, perhaps you could shed a little light for me on the subject mate.

hi sporty

you will like bogaz very scenic and not as busy and hustle and bustle of girne and defo up and coming and you defo have one for the future investment wise, there is a lot of work going on around there, like your choice of auckland thats where the money is and the south is the chill scenary place

on your question at the moment you cant own 2 properties on your name but their is ways round it putting in to another persons name like a family member but with diffrent surname or a close friend or the other way is setting up a registerd cypriot company and then you can as many as you want thru the buisness (but setting up a buisness can be quite a bit of hassle)and their is also size limit too per buyer around 1388 sqm this can be land-villa-apartment

we have moved on a bit since having cables coming out of the sheeps shack lol

depending on where you are staying if in bogaz there are some and a whole load around iskele and famagusta, and if you are in girne there even more in and around girne centre

hope this help

thanks pilgrim and ukturk turk, that's great news! i'm hoping to travel right accross the top of NC,I've got a couple of appointments lined up but i've told them i'd rather find things out for myself, warts and all! They would only show me what they want me to see and avoid anywhere that they would'nt want me to see. I don't trust estate agents, bank managers or solicitors in general,i have a disliking to financial advisors too,if they're that good at money why arn't they rich!! i apologise to any of these professions who use this board, i try not to tar them all with the same brush, there's good n bad in all professions.Darn it maybe i should've put this on "the rant"thread.I'd probably opt for the company route if i need to.i hope i do.

I think your comment about financial advisers is very childish.

Here is a scenario, you have a financial adviser (or indeed anyone else) who has no surplus income because of various commitments and hasn't inherited a load of money how does that person become rich . Does that mean that the financial adviser is no good.

didnt mean to offend.we could argue this one forever!however,i've heard or read it somewhere that if you divided the worlds wealth equally amongst everbody, within a few short years it'll be back in the same hands that the wealth left. The average millionaire will lose his wealth, then regain it because he learnt principles along the way,and he's probably a risktaker too!

My advise to a financial advisor that wants to get ahead when he has commitments and his money tied up would be to diversify and find other ways to increase his income and then take that income and plant seeds of investments and then harvest and plant more etc etc. oh yes and also read a little book called "the richest man in babylon".

Hi Pat i've bought off plan at Eastcoast Residence, they are 3 bed apartments, better still it only seems that there are going to be phases 1+2 allowed with planning rules changed. There are now only going to be 64 apts on site instead of the original 308!The rest of the site looks as if it may have to go for low-rise apts or luxury villas which is a real bonus. There are only a few left of the original design available and i'm toying with buying more,i mean 55k for 110m sq. internal and 20m sq.balconies!unbelievable views!mountains at the back and i've bought on the side so i'm overlooking protected conservation land,it blew me away i can tell you. They are located a few hundred yrds back from the little harbour at bogaz.

we must be very close then. The signs for Eastcoast Residence are out on the main road, about 200yrds towards Famagusta from the little harbour with the big restaurant.Completion is supposed to be end of March, they have a 3 month grace period though.I'll be suprised if i'd get it by the end of next summer, they took the workers away to do a large "de-salination plant" somewhere. They are hoping to be back on site in Jan. I'm happy to wait! I stayed near Kyrennia and i really liked the place,i seen a few devs in Kyrennia whilst there before i went east just in case i did'nt like the eastside but to my joy i think its even better! What suprised me a little was the sheer scale of all the buildings going up everywhere,if they don't get direct flights sorted for a while there will be bargains to have imho. However i've bought just for a little bolthole to sun myself so i'm not that concerned which way the market goes,i think its a buyers market at present and if direct flights ever take place i think many who decide not to buy will be kicking themselves.Do you live there fulltime or just holidays?

Gerrybart,

It is called just being helpful but why you pulled up a thread from 2007 is beyond my comprehension!
