I've taken the liberty of copying Finner's post on her move to North Cyprus, as she's asking for help - see below! --------- I have been considering Northern Cyprus myself & have only just started my research. Any info would be gratefully received, it's very difficult to decide which area to look at. I too have a dog to think about. Sue.

The best way to decide is to come and stay for two weeks, and drive around to see what ticks your boxes! I'd make a list of your important criteria first: In town or in the countryside? Near to the sea or in the mountains? New development or ‘traditional’ villa? Apartment or house? Close to shops and restaurants? Close to sporting facilities, e.g. golf course? Established community or new emerging area? Now you can start to whittle down the options; I’m sure if you post your criteria here, our forum members will be happy to point you in their favourite direction! Obviously I’m going to plug Kyrenia as the ideal town location, as I live here and love it.

Hi everyone, Theresa here, Larrys wife, We bought an apartment in Lemon Grove Karaoglanoglu, just 3 miles from Kyrenia out the Alsancak road. There are just 8 apartments being built there, and 8 villas, in a field that was originally a lemon Grove. It is a nice residential area and when we were out there last October viewing the site, a few of the local friendly dogs from the nearby villas came out to great us. The site is walking distance to shops bars and restaurants, 100 meters from the sea and 10mins walk from a public beach. Im not on commission (honestly) but I would love to hear from anyone else who has bought there

Our criteria was, can we walk to the shops, how far to the nearest hospital/doctors. could we live without our own transport. Ideally wanted a level walk (easier to use the zimmer on ) At the moment we are both able bodied but were thinking about the time when we weren't quite so spritely. Karen

Nice to see so many people helping other's on this web site, could i just add to the list of things to consider if buying a resale or building a new property is to ascertain Water and electrcity supply to the land. Everyone will have their own perception of what they want and I would also suggest not pressurise yourself by making a decision over two weeks, so take your time do your research and do a bit more. I wish you and every other person who looks to invest good luck good fortune and happiness for many years to come. Jarra Brown

Before you take the plunge I strongly recommend that before purchasing a property and moving out to North Cyprus permanently that you rent a place for 6-12 months to see if you like it. Then and only then purchase.

I can but reiterate exactly what lovingcyprus advises. Rent first, buy later, much later. Try before you buy. Martin

Definitely try before you buy. Friends of ours who are renting are about to move into their 3rd villa. First one had problems with water/electric and lacking in some basic items that were supposed to be provided i.e. curtains, dining table etc, second one that they thought was on a quiet village road turned out to be the local cut through for all the buses and builders lorries so you really do have to do your homework. It's also worth thinking about the sun in winter. If you're on the mountainside you may lose the sun much earlier than on the seaside for example. We once stayed in a villa in Alsancak and the sun went behind the mountain at 2pm whereas here in Karsiyaka we get the sun till it goes down after 5pm :0)
