I was told that rhubarb would not grow here as they need a frost, which we do not get

It should be possible to grow Rhubarb, but where you buy the crown from I do not know. Maybe start some from seed from the UK? Rhubarb needs plenty of water and fertiliser and will be more suited to a shady spot here in Cyprus. With regards raspberries I believe that they are grown successfully in the South, and I have seen wild blackberries growing here, so I am sure a few raspberry canes would too! Again, I do not know where you buy the canes, but you could try emailing some nurseries in the South if no success here.

remember any plants you want to bring from the south need prior clearance with the correct documents, otherwise they will be going to the customs prison! you get the paperwork from the agricultural ministry.

Firestarter, You are right - anything worth having is more than likely to get a new home in the custom mans garden!!! Ha Ha!! I bet they did a roaring trade with all that confiscated pet food and meat!! Although I must admit they didn't bat an eyelid at the house plants I brought back 18mths ago!!

Mike, you may be best to try and grow rhubarb in containers ,and put in plenty of horse manure/compost (loads on this website)- cover top of soil with black chippings to prevent water evapouration.order plants from Dobbies in Devon via their web site, cheers,Steve

Dear Mike, correction, sorry about the black chippings - had meant to say you may be best to put a black bin liner with the corners cut off at an angle to allow drainage, in the bottom of your container. This will retain moisture, then ordinary chippings on top of soil, sorry about that, cheers again, steve
