Agreed, BRS reckon there are around 20,000 here at various times, not all are permanent residents though.

Britt poulation: far too much. NC population in TRNC: 200 000 - 250 000. They say approx 150 000 to 200 000 live abroad like australia and uk etc. but dont know if this numbers are true. Post edited for offensive remark

According to the British Ex-Pat Ass, there are 14,000 registered Brits who own homes in the TRNC. About 8,000 live here & 6,000 holiday homes. The total population including ex-pats of all nationalities & students are around the 350,000 mark. With regard to the Turkish army - anyones guess! The South has a population of just over 1 million. These figures are at the end of 2007. Maybe a small increase since then? The donkey count has actually gone down. The dog & cat population is also under control. New figures can be obtained from the land registration office, if you want exact numbers?

Soothsayer....msg6...yet again the internet throws up another charmer who uses the devastatingly funny "your mum" type comments. I won't seek a moderator though.....I'd rather leave it so people can see what they are dealing with !

I have close friends who work or know people in the land registration office. I also have friends who work along side the animal rescue & pest control service. I also have a friend (Greek Cypriot) who too is well informed. As we all know, it's who you know not what you know! This is not just for Cyprus but every small island on the planet. If you appreciate & learn about the country you live in and adapt (when in Rome) your life will be much easier & more comfortable. Everyone deserves respect.

Hi folks I'm afraid I dispute a lot of the figures given here: "The population of Cyprus (Greek and Turkish zones) in 2003 was estimated by the United Nations at 802,000. In that year approximately 10% of the population was over 65 years of age, with another 22% of the population under 15 years of age. There were 100 males for every 100 females in the country in 2003. [ that makes me sure the TR army wasn't included!MM ]According to the UN, the annual population growth rate for 2000–2005 is 0.76%, with the projected population for the year 2015 at 861,000. The population density in 2002 was 97 per sq km (250 per sq mi). The Turkish sector is more sparsely populated than the Greek zone. source http://www.nationsencyclopedia.com/Asia-and-Oceania/Cyprus-POPULATION.html

Hi BB eyes. re msg 19 .. I'd say they were FAR more accurate ..why would the CIA "fib".. if anything the USA has historically been "closer" to TR than the RoC. It is even said by TCs that the "TRNC census was massaged to make more Turks "look" like they were TCs

mmmmmm That is not the answer to the question. Why are you determined to ignore the question. The question is: "Hi, do you have any idea how many British people live in North Cyprus."

Dear Harlequin re msg 24 "Why are you determined to ignore the question. " Fair point ! .. but I certainly wasn't *ignoring the Q*.. I disputed most of the figures posted by Mindy ( that would make UK folk approx 10% of the number of folk probably permanently resident in the north...say 250K.. Unless folk report to the High Commission and tell them "I'm here" how can accurate info be obtained?

How would the BRS, British High Commision etc know how many UK cits live here permanently?? We are not members of BRS or have told BHC we live here?? 3 years ago there was a census and even that was a load of b*******. One that we know hid and ignored the knock on the door (illegal resident), another phoned the census office to ask when they were coming after being at home all day (no problem Kibris). Think Harlequin is closer than most, I would say about 5k extrapolating all available statistical data, for those here live here full time. As a statistician in a previous existence that of course is another meaningless figure cos there is no accurate data here!!!!!

Hi F-S re msg 26 Actually, we always found them REALLY helpful, and esp when my Wife and step-son were having probs with being given the proper residency papers and should have had RoC id cards, the UK HC was very understanding and issued visas as if they had the correct documentation - as they accepted - as did the EU - that the RoC immigration were NOT implementing an EU Directive as it was intended. Interested to know how why you have the opp opinion..

Harlequin is more likley to be correct and i would guess even that is on the high side. i have heard that a figure nearer 2500 permanent residents. 1500 a good percentage of the year and the rest anybodys guess. What is certain the amount of UK residents wont make any difference to any settlement.

mmmmm, i have not had any dealings with them in cyprus but did have a good few years ago when in tunisia. a friend was assaulted when we were in a hotel bar. the guy was actually strangling him so that he was loosing conciousness. as i spur of the moment thing i slapped the guy, who then let him go, and we were thrown out. when we got outside our friend told me that this guy was a policeman. its a long story, but our friends family more or less run a small island off the coast of tunisia, and the local police like giving them a hard time because dad is an egyption. i had to make a statement and go to the mainland policestation ect, as this guy had no right to do what he did.( like a uk police complaint.) i asked the embassy for help and advice as i didn't have a clue what would happen in a country like tunisia. they gave no help or advice at all. i guess they may have turned up, if i was sent to jail, lol. i do have faith in the kindness of the tunisian mainland police force t
