Simple solution to that one, use an agent. We brought ours over using Olaytrans of Gazi Magusa. They will organise an agent for collecting from your house in UK. One tip we payed a premium for packing service ie all your breakables are carefully wrapped and packed in boxes, furniture etc is boxed to avoid damage etc. All the boxes are labelled and numbered an a full inventory made. The inventory is sent by UK agent to here and translated into Turkish. We had to put ours into storage for 4 months before comeing out but then the container was shipped to Felixstow for the crossing to here. Obviously you are tied to nature at this point for arrival dates. The company we used is Olaytrans and e-mail olaytrans@olaytrans.com When the container arrived Olay himself took us to customs, immigration, police etc where we hung around and signed bits of paper. If we had tried to do it ourselves it would have taken forever. One person we talked to it took 2 weeks of his holiday going back and forth. With Olay it took about 3 hours and he did all talking etc. Next day Olay arrived with a crew who unloaded the container under the gaze of 2 customs officers. And yes they did search boxes at random. Obviously service does not come cheap, whole package was around £4k but believe me for peice of mind it is worth it. Bear in mind also if you pack yourself and something gets damage or broken the loss adjusters will say it was your fault and will not pay. Hope that helps. If you want more, I can fill in but contact Hurmus at Olaytrans and she will answer all your questions in excellent English. Good luck David Karsiyaka

Generator; Customs will remove the Generator then a week or so later you collect it from Lefkosia, paying a fee of course. Unless you already have one,i would buy from here, i bought a Briggs and Stratton 6.5 kw from Ali Tektan's (Giırne), Probably the best make aside from Honda, in the uk they are 1250 GBP , i paid 1300 GBP .benefit being that if it goes wrong its fixed under guarantee, Buy a 63 amp Changeover switch(for wiring to the house). Any new electrical goods?, remove from original packaging, uncoil the flex (make it look as if it has been used),Dont be tempted to bring over multiple items for friends (They will almost certainly presume that you intend to sell them and slap on a 40% tax!!!). Other than that, it maybe worth your while to do a recce and make sure that the house is ready for moving in when the Developer says it is, My contents sat in my house with No windows for 4 months. Good luck with the move

Hi Shirl, I have just booked my removals through Dolphin Removals http://www.dolphinmovers.com they have an office in Kyrenia and specialise in removals to TRNC. The good thing about them is that my furniture is being driven (8 days) for the same price as going by boat. Hope this helps

Hi , I am trying to get estimates for shipping from los angeles to TRNC, the couople of companies i approached have given me great estimates between $4500-$6500 US for the whole thing, packing , unpacking customs , paperwork etc... I have a suspiscion that they are not aware of north and south, no matter how many times I tell them, One even said it would be shipped to Kyrenia, thats when I realized they dont know. One company said they would ship as far as Mersin.. How owuld I get the container from Mersin to Cyprus? Do I need to use and agent to organize it from Mersin to Cyprus, and rough cost? Thanks turbo

Hi, yes I tried Olaytrans, there quote was a ridiculous amount for the whole distance US to TRNC ,more than double the US companies. I have not found any agents yet that can send from Mersin. The prices from US are incredibly cheap but only as far as Mersin. I need an agent that will take it on after it arrives to mersin. Any suggestions? turbo

HI, I hope to be gone before Vicky spice arrives yeah. They dont think too much of her here and she is going to have to prove herself to the in crowd befoer they let her in. beckham is another story. I have had several qoutes one extreme to the other. As I posted on another board will pose the same ? here. What happens if I ship to the south? A couple of qoute examples. One major company most of you use wanted $12.000 US to famagusta The othere company from LA, wanted $2275 US to Limassol, a huge difference. So, is it possible to ship to south and still keep your stuff, or what? suggestions anyone. thanks, turbo

We had our stuff shipped from San Jose, Ca a 40 FT container. I did the same research as you and ended up using a UK based TC owned shipping company. However if I had to do it again I would not have anything shipped instead buy what I needed in Cyprus and get rid of a lot of stuff. I think we americans are major stuff collectors and expert shoppers.

Yes they do, if you want local channels you can have the set chipped(really wouldn't bother though), most here have Digiturk (or dodgyturk), i have the basic + 1 package (BBC Prime,History Channel etc plus 5 movie channels), pay a year in advance and you get 2 months free 35 YTL a month.
