Can anyone advise about shipping household items from the UK to Kyrenia. Our house will be ready in October so personal experiences/reccommendations would be greatly appreciated. Also does anyone know if we will get stung for import duty on our electrical items, or anything else. Cheers Sue and Dave. ps this is a really informative and useful site many thanks.

We have just moved over here 13th January and our household items are coming via Olaytrans. As we were not sure if our house would be ready this is North Cyprus and we own a warehouse in UK we put our goods on pallets and waited until we were in before advising Olaytrans. They collected the goods and they are on their way. When they arrive I will do a blog on the whole process from start to end. When we flew out we bought in our cases a 20" LCD flatscreen TV, video player and cd player they travelled fine, we have an old portable tv on pallet and expect to pay duty on it but watch this space.

You brought a 20" flat screen in your suitcase?! And a video and cd player too?!! I am seriously impressed! Who on earth did you fly with? My bags usually arrive knackered beyond belief when I fly back from the UK, and I'm sure it's the UK end that chuck them around with wild abandon!

We flew with CTA 13th Jan and one of the first to check in. The TV we wrapped in a quilted throw and then in one of those bags you suck the air out of gave good cover. The CD player & DVD was in a rucksack that we were taking as hand luggage but because I had a handbag was not allowed to take on board so that had to go in with the cases at a cost!! excess baggage they know how to charge so this bag was not packed securely I was amazed it survived. Check in said 1 piece of hand luggage only - handbag counted as 1 item but security couldn't give a damn we could have taken more on the plane and not had to pay but now I know - this was Heathrow. We came via Izmir but last trip to UK we changed at Istanbul they lost our case for 3 months and it looked at though it had gone 10 rounds with Ali (now that shows my age!) and lost. PS also bought skybox & wellies which I'm glad of.

Like the idea of using an air-removal bag jobbie - very neat! I once travelled back from Rome with a sheet of Vatican stamps for a stamp-collecting friend carefully placed flat on top of my suitcase. Which got absolutely soaked somewhere on the journey home, and I ended up with picture of Pope John Paul stuck to everything in sight!

Hi, We brought over a 20" LCD TV & DVD player in our luggage as well without any breakages. Made sure they were well wrapped and packaged in the middle of the case and all was well. Gtg

We had Dolphin Movers ship a 40 foot container from the states, they did a fantastic job. The move back however was not as good, but if your only going one way than you should be ok. Let Hakan know Ali & Jennifer recomended his company 447967178754 .

Hi All, I am using Dolphins as they are driving my goods to TRNC. The drive should take 8 days instead of the 28+ on the ship. To drive your goods is same price as sailing and my bill is £2,310 for quite a bit of furniture. Shona

I just got a quote from Dolphin of £3250 for a 20 ft container Scotland to Alsancak. Contact 'olaytrans@olaytrans.com' they quoted me £2100 for the same shipment and they have had other positive testimonials on this forum.

One of my friends used emel shipping (tel: 0208 802 1234) and they were very happy about the service they have provided, they would recommend using this company for shipments to Northern Cyprus.

We used Dolphin and had so much go missing. Things were broken and it was difficult to claim on their insurance. I certainly would not recommend them.

Have to agree with others about Olaytrans. Nice and helpful, go the extra 9 yards, polite staff and friendly English speaking young lady in the offices in Famagusta. Top of the tree as far as I'm concerned. I've used them and most of my friends too and we all agree.

As the original poster for this link we also used Olytrans to ship our household goods 18 months ago (how time flies) and would agree with others about Olytrans, most helpful with all aspects of the shipment including advise and personal support around Customs paperwork etc. They were also very resonably priced at the time in fact cheaper than all the others we explored Sue and Dave

Olaytrans. Hurmus is a gem in the office and will answer any question she is able to. Her hubby, Olay, does the chasing around all the offices with you for customs clearance etc. For us, they are impossible to rate as they were so good for ourselves.
