London Turks' screened at City Hall
A SHORT film on London Turks was screened at City Hall this week as part of an exhibition on the Turkish community in the capital.
London Turks– In their own words’ premiered at City Hall on Tuesday (7 November) with a reception supported by the Mayor of London.
The display will run until 24 November and explores the experiences of a variety of Turkish people living in London, from refugees to bankers, businessmen and journalists.
Photographs of Turkish speaking people living in London are accompanied by snippets of their life stories in the display hall of the GLA headquarters.
Produced by researcher and sociologist Semra Eren-Nijhar, the photographic exhibition and short film are the culmination of six years of research.
The exhibition is the first work to focus on the lives of Turks living and working in London.
The short film was accompanied by a soundtrack of music by Mercan Dede and poetry readings by Eren-Nijhar.
Guests at the reception included the Turkish Embassy’s Minister Counsellor Atılay Ersan, Vice Consul fiener Cebeci, Attache for Work and Social Security Ayşegül Yeşildağlar and Councillor Ahmet Karahasan.
