TRNC London Office goes online

Source: Londra Gazete
21 June 2007

THE office of the TRNC representative in London went online this week, in a move to plant its feet firmly in the 21st century.

The new e-consulate will allow Turkish Cypriot Londoners to access all government services, information and forms online, potentially halving waiting times.

TRNC Consul General, Cem Topcu, called the website a “window to the world” for the Turkish Cypriot administration, claiming it will bring administrators and the public closer together.

Press Secretary for the TRNC London office, Hüseyin Özel said: “The creation of this website will bring the representative’s office closer to the people we serve and will make our services more accessible.

“We are very grateful to our former London representative, Yonca Şenyiğit, for spotting this gap in our operation and working hard to plug it.”

The website was put together after studying the online services of other consulates across the world and is expected to minimise personal and telephones traffic through the office. End users can download all application forms online, fill them out and return them to the office with the appropriate documents. All information is available in English and Turkish and the website sports links to all other Turkish Cypriot government departments.

Mr Özel called on end users to let the office know of any additional features they would like to see on the online service and to alert them to any omissions.

“The website is in its early stages and we are open to consultation,” he said. “We would very much like to hear what people would like to see put on the website. It is important that it becomes a complete source of information and a means of communicating to our community.”

The site includes a registration service to help the office keep track of all the Turkish Cypriot people living in the UK. Readers are urged to register with the service to receive up-to-date information on the work of the TRNC London office.
