The first shipment of 300 thousand light bulbs to be distributed to the public as part of the Energy Saving Campaign launched by the government arrived in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus yesterday.
Only 170 thousand of the total of 300 thousand energy efficient light bulbs could be delivered due to limited capacity of the cargo plane.
The energy saving bulbs imported from China arrived at Ercan Airport on a cargo plane flying directly from Shangai Airport in China.
It has been announced that the light bulbs will be distributed to the public starting from next week.
Speaking at Ercan Airport, the Minister of Finance Ahmet Uzun stated that the energy shortage problems faced in the Republic was expected to end later this year and that the new additional back up generators currently being installed at the Teknecik poweplant will become operational by the 1st of April.
