Hello everyone good afternoon can I please pick someone's brain. I am trying to estimate the electric costs of having our own well. Could someone advise what type and capacity of pump would be needed and how much electricity per running hour would be consumed and if possible how much money would this equate to at current rates. thanks Doug

my dear Doug, you need to give us info. how deep is your well?, how many tons of water you want per day or hour?. another issue is the quality of the pump...as cheaper as more expensive your electricity bill and maintenance (replacement) costs will be. Peter

Cost is too small to even worry about. My well pump is (if I remember) 1 to 2 HP. Uses between 1 to 2 units of electricity per hour. In 10 to 12 minutes it will pump up 2 tons of water (if the water is there!), using one third of a unit (cost 30 odd kurus/12 to 15 pence Sterling). That's a lot of water and should keep you going for days. Some pumps are less powerful and raise water through a smaller (1 inch) pipe, mine is 2 inch. These may cost more to raise the same amount of water, but I don't think it will be too much more. Regards, Ozbey.

About three years ago, I calculated (roughly!) that the cost worked out to about 18 Kr per cubic meter (metric ton). The cost of electricity has gone up since then, I have absolutely no idea how far down the pump is, and I would estimate that the pump is around 1 HP (it draws about 4 Amps, according to my 'clamp meter'). Given the stated 'variables', it is impossible to be precise, although the cost of water from your own well will be a fraction of the cost of water from your Belediye (and a VERY small fraction of the cost from your local tanker driver!) - but the thing to remember is this - if you still have water when the Belediye don't, and the tanker driver puts his prices up in response to demand, then it is PRICELESS
