This should be treated as murder and not an accident. According to the news in the link given above, the technician climbed up the pole to repair the wires which were touching each other whilst the electricity supply was off. Then the electricity was back on while he was still working on it. Such accidents should never happen because there are strict safety rules to avoid such occurences. thus somebody is seriously guilty and should be brought to justice. ismet

Normally the technician is expected to short the lines to earth while working on it so that even if electricity is switched on by mistake the shortcircuit should save his life. Hence his supervisor is responsible for not making sure that the technician did short the lines. Secondly, the switch should be locked in the off position and the keys should be with someone responsible so that someone unaware of the situation cannot swsitch it back on. Thus there are at least two breaches of the safety rules. I will find out exactly what happened tomorrow. ismet

sometimes electricity generators can be connected to a consumer unit at times when there is a power cut, resulting in tragedies such as these. my Sympathies go out to the mans family. Regards Mick

msg. 7 If the lines were earthed as specified in the safety rules, it would have taken care of any generators connected to the line accidentally. ismet

I agree with Elko. Can we expect an inquest, fatal accident inquiry and full investigation from the TRNC police and health and safety executive? Wait and see...
