Couldn't post on the closed thread, but I did want to answer AJ.

"For what it is worth,

This board is getting away from what it was set up to do and that is to help people that are interested in buying/moving/holidaying or just generally interested in the TRNC. It is now (particularly of an evening) being turned into a social/joke network and the amount of crap that people post is unbelievable. Also I find it interesting that certain members (yes you know who you are) will post on other sites complaining about this and that on Cyprus44 but don't have the guts to contact board admin staff directly to find out the reasons for their actions. Also certain members like to try and push the limits as to what they can get away with posting wise. Having stood back from 'moderating' for a while now I will support Bill as I know he is getting frustrated with some of the crap that gets posted here. He has tried a softly softly approach but obviously some posters have not appreciated that.

A.J Not all threads are about buying/moving/holidaying in NC, and they don't get closed. The football threads are never about NC, neither is; What is the meaning of God? And various others.

Also my thread started yesterday morning, and I certainly wasn't pushing anyone to the limits.

Couldn't agree with you more. Getting sick of reading 'hi, how are you, great seeing you last night at .......' etc. etc. don't these people have mobile phones for personal contact - oh no, sorry, forgot, you have to pay for text messages. But getting back to the point, the forum should be about helping out with problems, giving advice and information not sending personal messages to friends.

I have to agree with what you have said vicki.

""A.J Not all threads are about buying/moving/holidaying in NC, and they don't get closed. The football threads are never about NC, neither is; What is the meaning of God? And various others.""

Why did it take so long to close the chess club thread that DC started? Now if that wasnt people pushing the limits then i dont know what is?

britvic,

I agree.

Tootie,

What is wrong with advertising a new Chess Club. Surely this sort of information is exactly what this site needs, just as useful as "a new bar has opened here" etc.. If you have been sucked into all the "Let's all hate DC" nonsense then that is your problem - the information in his post was perfectly valid. I have gained much useful local knowledge frommany of DC's posts.

Ozbey, What i mean is that the thread got hi-jacked to death by the "lets all hate DC" posters and completly spoiled it.

Why didnt any of the mods jump in and stop the childish behavour before it got closed with (this thread is closed due to gone of topic) and DC having to re-post again? This is what im saying....

Understand i have *not* been sucked into the lets all hate DC and was actually there on the day to join the club as shows in the photo taken by DC.

Bill, before you close this one as well, for God's sake lighten up a bit.

I dont normally get invoved in this sort of argument. 60% of my posts have been offering help and info but I enjoy having a laugh as I read posts.

Why get involved when it is so unneccesary.

Vicki. Thank you, glad you have seen where I'm coming from.

Tootie. As moderators we walk a fine line. Do we let a post evolve or do we spot something that we feel might cause problems with other posters which will result in animosity? We don't have a crystal ball to see how a post will develop, we have to use our instinct. Sometimes we get it wrong.

Recent events have made me change the way that I personally moderate. Vicki was spot on - I usually have a laid back attitude. There has been a lot of rubbish posted on here lately, likewise there has been some very good threads develop. Thankfully there are more of the latter type than the former.

Thanks for the reply Bill,

I understand what your saying. Just the ACC thread really pissed me off being hi-jacked like it was. Maybe you should think to introduce a yellow and red card warning system to posters that abuse threads and provoke trouble???

Britvic, Tootie, anybody else who's interested,

I keep posting this advice, but I'll try once more...

The Mods, Admins, call 'em what you will do not, and CAN not monitor every post on every thread 24 hours a day.

They rely on YOU to report trouble.

If you spot something developing, email forumadmins(at)cyprus44.com - (obviously insert an '@' in the appropriate place!) and tell them what's going on, and express your concern.

They will need the Name of the thread - for instance this one is "Sorry, I just want to say something", and the 'URL' - that's the bit that appears in the address bar of your browser, this one is http://cyprus44.com/forums/22010.asp and if it's a long thread, tell them which number message is causing concern.

People have said to me in the past that they feel it shouldn't be necessary, that we are all adults etc, but that is obviously not the case, so come on, help the mods do their job!

Every single time I've reported trouble, it's been dealt with...

I have to say this forum seems to have become one big advert site where little groups promote their friends restaurants or estate agency and knocking any competition or place that would'nt reduce the bill for a good review on here. I think my old dad who knows nothing about how the internet works summed up how this forum is getting when he asked what the cyprus44 mafia were up to today.

We could have a simple rule, all posts have to be relevant to North Cyprus.

Humour could still be a part of the board, but there would be far less cut/paste, and people would have to think for themselves.

Got my armour on Pam. lol

The point I am making in post two is that AJ is saying we should only talk about NC when most topics have been covered but yes I would agree we should help anyone who asks genuine questions, but it would be very boring not to have the odd joke and a bit of banter.

I wasn't having a go at the football threads, I can see they are about football so I don't go into a thread about football, I was merely (again) pointing out that it's not all about NC.

Are there two Vicki's on this thread? Keithcaley and Bill (No1), messages 13 and 17 don't add up.

Message 25 on this very thread is where the problem starts in my opinion.

If a thread on here is not being offensive then what right do moderators have to butt in and close it ? To say it serves no purpose is a cop out . Britvic's posting was very relavant to cyprus but was closed after only 1 hr 18 mins, yet there is a football thread on here that's been running since January, what purpose is that serving Bill ?

Something of a whitewash here. You write many a humorous tale which to some may find close to the mark however, very funny to myself but no accounting for taste! I think serious inquires about TRNC are addressed seriously and answered accordingly with honesty and sincerity by many. Inane drivel and procrastination on issues which have been satisfactorily answered seem to run and run into dreariness unless a little light hearted humour/banter is interjected. I noticed a posting by 'eager' was closed without the topic nor the replies been shown for the reason why it was eradicated though the post is marked 'closed'.

Maybe 'Britvic' had added a little of the hard stuff to her 'baby mixers' but it was not a post to be banned in my opinion.

OK

As far as I understand Britvics thread was not closed down because of her original post, it was the subsequent crap that was posted later in the thread. Happy with that Vicki?

The other major point that has partially been addressed is that we cannot monitor all threads and postings on this board and we rely on members to report any transgressions regarding the boards rules. (I get up to ten e-mails a day complaining about various postings) And I know that you all keep yourselves up to date with the rules don't you? If you don't then do not complain when you fall foul of the board admin. It really is that simple and if you have a problem then contact board admin (failing that then Izzet).

Lets not let this board deviate from what it was set up to do. I like a bit of humour and banter now and again but think about what this board is about.
