Hi cut this from frank & joan site as someone buying at crystal bay marina was wondering if anyone had more info, Newspaper day again and the headlines are that one of the marina projects has been turned down once more. The £12 million scheme for 543 berths and some apartments was turned down in 2005 and again in 2006 by the Supreme Monuments Council. There are two historic sites dating back to 400 BC near the site, one of which was an ancient port and the Department of Ancient Monuments is keen to protect this area. The site was leased to the new potential developer for a period of 49 years, in 2007. Is it me, or would I have thought seriously about signing the lease knowing it had been turned down on two previous occasions. Thanks Mark

The fact that the lease was for only 49 years should have told whoever it was a nono plus its a big project but these builders normally settle for a smaller site and still do well

for any proper information on the marina it might be best to ask the people involved- the Little villa company will gladly give you any information, if it is any help the roads and infastructure are currently under way to feed the servicing vehicles etc

Hi all, I feel sorry for the people who have bought property on the strength of this marina being built. When we bought we didn't know about the marina but when we heard it was only going to be two miles down the road, we did think we may benefit with the value of our property as I think did a lot of other people. I have seen a lot of activity at the small Esentepe Harbour and rumour has it, it is going to be developed as a water sports complex. Anybody heard anything about this? The Butlers wife

All I can say is , thank goodness the government is seeing sense over some things. Who wants all these marinas sprouting up destroying the environment. The seal and turtle populations are already being affected by development and this project would see the possible destruction of a seal colony. There are enough of these damn things around the Med that people can use, those in Spain are probably now underused so if you like sailing go there, do not destroy more of the planet.

Cyprusishome, What a grump you are, wouldn't this marina have created hundreds of jobs and brought in thousands of pounds into the economy. I noticed you live in Kaysiaka, am I right in thinking you already have a marina or are getting one? I agree about the seal population but they manage to survive in Britain where they vie with boats for space. Most sailors are responsible and watch out for these creatures when entering and exiting harbours. The Butlers wife

No Marina here, none that I can see anyway!!!!! Grump, no just fed up of seeing this wonderful country destroyed for a few transitory pleasure seekers. Just look at Spain, Greece, Thailand etc all had there best parts destroyed for the sake of a few. As for creating hundreds of jobs, Cypriots will not work for the pittance that hotels etc pay, most staff come from the poorer parts of Turkey, Bangladesh, phillipines etc the same as all other tourist areas world wide. There is very little money goes into the local economy like the new, dreadful 5* hotels/casinos all the money goes back to the investors who are Turkish, Greek, Israeli or Russian.

Hi markcbm & other cbm owners, Has anyone seen the development recently or even thought about furnishing the properties? all the web sites seem to be a bit 'too fancy' and expensive. If anyone has any tips in furnishing then please let me know as it seems to be more difficult than I expected
