Sailing to North Cyprus: a 30 Year Old Ban Lifted

The Port Cyprium Marina is the long-time dream of Altan Houssein, an engineer and passionate yachtsman who realised that there were only 22 quality marinas along the Turkish coastline – and all of them were virtually full. Since 1974, restrictions had been imposed by the North Cyprus government on the movement of yachts around the North Cyprus coast, so it was virtually impossible for boats to moor on the coastline of North Cyprus. So, Houssein set about achieving the near-impossible by getting the 30-year old yacht ban lifted, and also gaining permission for this major development on the North Cyprus coastline to be constructed - within strict environmental guidelines.

Scuba Diving in North Cyprus at Port Cyprium Marina

The Port Cyprium Marina will also welcome other visitors to its range of shops, waterfront restaurants, bars and leisure club. A new diving school will offer lessons and courses in scuba diving off North Cyprus, where the non-tidal waters are ideal for beginners and experienced divers alike.

Properties with Marina Berths at Port Cyprium Marina, North Cyprus

A further phase of the marina development includes sixty stunning new villas at Kucuk Erenkoy, with views across the sea and the amazing backdrop of the mountains. The main draw is that every apartment has its won private berth at Port Cyprium guaranteed, so these properties are bound to be in high demand by yachtsmen eager for a base in North Cyprus and in the waters of the eastern Mediterranean.

North Cyprus: Back on the Sailing Map

Port Cyprium is located twenty nautical miles east of Kyrenia, or just a 25-minute drive from this historic town and its attractive Venetian harbour. There is no doubt that this marina will finally put North Cyprus back on the sailing map, as the famous "Turkish Waters Pilot" guide by Rod Heikell will show the newly-accessible waters in its next edition.
